Brivio Confirms Zeelenberg’s Departure from Trackhouse Aprilia at Aragon MotoGP
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia following the conclusion of the 2024 season, as confirmed during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Last weekend, Davide Brivio, the head of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team after the 2024 season concludes.
Zeelenberg, who joined the Trackhouse team when it first started as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project following the team's second season with the Noale brand and its first season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with Simon Crafar, the pit lane reporter for MotoGP.com, prior to the Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand last Sunday, Brivio, who became a part of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, shared that Zeelenberg's exit was a “very difficult” decision. He noted that this move is part of the American-owned team's efforts to explore “a new direction”.
Brivio mentioned that Zeelenberg's departure was a topic of discussion and they ultimately decided together. He also praised Wilco Zeelenberg for his contributions.
"To be frank, when I arrived, I discovered a team that he has meticulously assembled over the years. Most of this team will remain unchanged next year, so he deserves significant recognition for what he has established."
"As Trackhouse, we felt it was necessary to explore a new path for the future. While it's unfortunate on one hand, it's simply a business decision on the other."
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been incredibly challenging."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain at this time. Previously a winner in the 250cc Grand Prix, the Dutchman served as a team manager for both Jorge Lorenzo and later Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP garage. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
