Brad Binder Battles Burnout and Bagnaia, Jack Miller ‘Nipped by Rins’ in Aragon MotoGP Drama
Brad Binder: "I ended up doing a rolling burnout once more!", Jack Miller: "Rins got ahead of me"
Brad Binder: "I devised a solid strategy last night to avoid spinning out at the start…"
Brad Binder had his best MotoGP weekend in terms of points since the season started in Qatar, achieving fourth and sixth place finishes at the Aragon race.
Although he veered off course at the start of both races, he still secured seventh place, which was a better position on the less favorable side of the grid.
During the middle part of the race, Binder was trailing rookie Pedro Acosta. This contest turned into a fight for third place after Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided with five laps remaining.
However, Acosta remained slightly beyond reach.
"I came up with an excellent strategy last night to avoid losing control at the start, and I performed a rolling burnout again just like I did yesterday!" Binder said with a smile.
"I was able to navigate through and overtake several racers. It was challenging to avoid errors since the front tire was overheating while trailing others until the final part of the race."
"I attempted to gain time when exiting corners since I couldn't enter them quickly due to the front overheating. However, I ultimately suffered as the left side of the tire completely wore out."
"I made every effort to overtake Pedro, but there was no opportunity from behind!"
"Aside from that, we took some fairly encouraging steps this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective over the course of the race."
Jack Miller, starting from 15th position, had a strong beginning and moved up to eighth place by the end of the first lap. However, the Australian rider soon faced difficulties with rear tire grip.
Following a last-lap overtake by Alex Rins that pushed him down to tenth place, he, along with two other riders, was penalized with an additional 16 seconds for tyre pressure violations after the race, ultimately placing him in 15th position.
“It was a long race,” remarked Miller. “The track conditions varied once more; it was mostly dirty over the weekend, yet today it felt more slippery.”
"I gave it my all. It was tough to manage the [medium] rear tire, and I experienced a major highside right after the final turn."
"I found my pace and focused on maintaining it. There were several challenges transitioning from the edge to the center of the tire, but I managed to finish successfully."
"I didn't make any errors during the race, but I found it challenging to keep up with the guys ahead. We'll continue to work hard."
"Thrilled to secure a top ten finish, but on the final lap, Rins edged me out on the back straight. I was striving for precision, but a poor drive allowed him to overtake me."
“We’ll return to Misano.”
Test rider Pol Espargaro will join the lineup as a wild-card entry, bringing KTM's total number of riders to five for this weekend.
“Next, head to Misano while also focusing on the subsequent test and Pol’s wildcard entry, which will provide us with assistance moving forward,” stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
Binder is trailing Acosta by three points as the first Misano MotoGP round approaches, with Acosta currently in fifth place in the world championship standings.
Miller, who might be officially announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider during the team's home races in Italy, currently holds the 15th position and is three points behind Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo.
