Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Collision with Francesco Bagnaia: ‘Not in My DNA or This Sport’s
Alex Marquez responds: “I would never intentionally collide with another rider”
Alex Marquez denies any insinuation that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia, stating: 'It's not in my nature and it's not in the nature of this sport'
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across 'some statements' following Sunday's MotoGP incident at Aragon involving Francesco Bagnaia.
The two riders collided in a serious crash as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini rider for a podium spot, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that 'no further measures' were necessary as they found that 'neither rider was mainly at fault'.
However, Marquez appears displeased with remarks from Bagnaia implying that the Gresini rider did not close the throttle to prevent a collision.
Bagnaia shared with MotoGP.com that he heard the other rider accelerating as soon as he entered the next corner, indicating that the rider was attempting to make contact.
"I wanted to examine the data… He kept the throttle open at 60 percent and 40 percent until the moment he crashed. This behavior seems very unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
Marquez shared a post on social media this past Monday.
“Having reviewed certain statements, I would like to clarify the following points:
"I would never intentionally collide with another racer, and I refuse to be accused of doing so. Such behavior is against my principles and the spirit of this sport."
"The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday is what matters most to me, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"Now it's the moment to relax and rejuvenate so I can be in peak condition for Misano."
Both Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape without major injuries and are set to compete at Misano this weekend.
Alex's team-mate and brother, Marc Marquez, claimed victory in the Aragon race. Meanwhile, Jorge Martin secured second place, which has extended his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
