Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Collision Claims After Aragon MotoGP Incident with Francesco Bagnaia
Alex Marquez dismisses claims: “I would never intentionally collide with another rider”
Alex Marquez denies any accusations that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia, stating: 'Such actions are not in my nature, nor are they part of this sport's ethos'
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across 'certain comments' following his encounter with Francesco Bagnaia during the Aragon MotoGP on Sunday.
The duo got into a serious crash when Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini racer for the third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that 'no additional measures' were necessary because 'neither rider was found to be mainly at fault'.
However, Marquez appears displeased with remarks from Bagnaia implying that the Gresini rider did not close the throttle to prevent a collision.
"When I entered the next turn, corner 13, I could hear his engine revving up. He was accelerating. It was clear he was aiming for this contact," Bagnaia explained to MotoGP.com.
"I was interested in examining the data… He kept the throttle open at 40 to 60 percent right up until the point of the crash. This behavior is quite unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
Marquez shared a post on social media on Monday:
"Upon reviewing certain statements, I would like to clarify the following:"
"I would never intentionally collide with another cyclist, and I refuse to be accused of such behavior. It goes against my principles and the ethos of this sport."
"The conversation I had yesterday with Pecco is what matters most to me, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"It's now time to take a break and heal so I can be fully ready for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape without major injuries and are set to return to the track at Misano this weekend.
Marc Marquez, Alex's brother and teammate, clinched victory at the Aragon race. However, Jorge Martin's second-place finish has extended his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
