Wilco Zeelenberg to Exit Trackhouse Aprilia at End of 2024 Season, Confirms Davide Brivio
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will exit Trackhouse Aprilia after the 2024 season, as confirmed during the Aragon MotoGP event.
The head of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, Davide Brivio, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg is set to depart from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team back when it was first known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will be departing from the satellite Aprilia project. This marks the end of the team's second season with the Noale brand and its first season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with Simon Crafar, a pit lane reporter for MotoGP.com, just before last Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who started with Trackhouse at the beginning of 2024, shared that the decision for Zeelenberg to leave was "very hard" to make. He added that this move is part of the American-owned team's efforts to explore "some different direction".
"We had a conversation about Zeelenberg leaving," Brivio mentioned. "This was a decision we made together. Wilco deserves significant recognition for his contributions."
"To be truthful, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has developed over time. Most of this team will remain the same next year, so he deserves a lot of recognition for what he has accomplished."
"At Trackhouse, we felt that we needed to explore a new path for the future. While it's unfortunate in some respects, it's also a business decision."
"It has consistently been a challenging scenario, and reaching this decision has been extremely tough."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain. Once a champion of the 250cc Grand Prix, the Dutchman served as a team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT squad.
