Trackhouse Aprilia Shake-Up: Davide Brivio Confirms Wilco Zeelenberg’s Departure at End of 2024
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia at the conclusion of the 2024 season, a revelation made during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Last weekend, Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who initially joined the Trackhouse team when it was first formed as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project following its second season with the Noale brand and its first season under the Trackhouse name.
During an interview with Simon Crafar, the MotoGP.com pit lane reporter, prior to last Sunday's MotoGP race at MotorLand Aragon, Brivio, who became part of Trackhouse in early 2024, shared that Zeelenberg’s exit was a “very difficult” decision to make. He added that this move is part of the American-owned team's efforts to explore “a different direction”.
"We had conversations about Zeelenberg leaving," Brivio stated. "It was a collective decision. Wilco deserves significant recognition for his contributions."
To be frank, when I got here, I discovered a group that he has put together over the years. Furthermore, most of this team will remain the same next year, so he deserves significant recognition for his efforts.
"As Trackhouse, we believed that moving forward, we needed to explore a new approach. While it is unfortunate on one hand, it is a business decision on the other."
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been extremely challenging."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain. The Dutchman, who previously won a 250cc Grand Prix, served as a team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later Maverick Vinales in the Yamaha MotoGP factory team. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
