Porsche Balances Tradition and Innovation with Parallel Gas and Electric Panamera Models

The Porsche Panamera will continue to be available with both an electric and a gasoline engine as the company adapts its product lineup in response to changing market trends.

Speaking to Autocar, Porsche's head of research and development, Michael Steiner, confirmed that the gasoline-fueled Panamera will continue to be available for purchase alongside its upcoming electric successor in dealerships.

Steiner mentioned that the latest Cayenne model will be entirely battery-powered, yet throughout its entire production period, the traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) variant will continue to be available. He added, "This approach will also apply to the Panamera."

Updates to the engine options and production cycles now extend to models outside of the Panamera and Cayenne range.

The upcoming arrival of the all-electric Porsche Macan to the US market will see it being sold concurrently with its gasoline counterpart for the foreseeable future. For the 2025 model, the Macan EV is expected to be priced more competitively and offer an increased driving range.

The upcoming version of the Cayenne is set to be an electric vehicle, although it will continue to be offered with traditional gasoline engines. In 2024, the Cayenne series experienced significant enhancements to the hybrid models, boosting both their performance and driving distance.

Porsche plans to expand its electric vehicle lineup with additional electric SUV models. Following the launch of the upcoming next-gen Cayenne, a premier electric SUV is set to debut, ranking higher in the lineup. This unnamed electric SUV will utilize the Volkswagen Group's Scalable Systems Platform (SSP), with Porsche opting for the specialized 'Sport' iteration of the SSP for this particular vehicle.

The car manufacturer has announced that the electric SUV will deliver "impressive capabilities and self-driving features along with the iconic Porsche silhouette." The inside of the vehicle is described as "a totally novel encounter."

Over time, Porsche dealerships are set to feature a trio of electric SUVs alongside an electric hatchback iteration of the upcoming Panamera model.
