Polestar Electrifies Leadership: Michael Lohscheller Takes the Helm as EV Brand Gears Up for Expansion
Polestar welcomes Michael Lohscheller as its latest CEO, succeeding Thomas Ingenlath who has been at the helm of the electric vehicle brand since its inception from Volvo, in light of Ingenlath stepping down.
Starting from the first day of October 2024, Polestar has announced that the new policy will be implemented. Lohscheller, who has held the position of CEO at Opel, Vinfast, and Nikola, departed from Nikola in September 2023. As of the latest update, his LinkedIn account reflects his current role as the leader of the International Motor Vehicle Manufacturers association.
Production of the 2025 Polestar 3 is set to commence at the Volvo facility situated in the vicinity of Charleston, South Carolina,
Lohscheller expressed in a statement that Polestar has swiftly become a sought-after and groundbreaking name in the electric car arena. He is eager to collaborate with the skilled team to enhance the robust base already in place and hasten their progress.
Polestar initially emerged on the scene as a motorsport team with strong ties to Volvo, later transitioning into a high-performance offshoot of the car manufacturer. It was in 2017 that it made the leap to become an independent entity under the guidance of Volvo's parent company Geely. The brand hit the market in 2019, debuting with the exclusive Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid sports car. This was swiftly followed by the launch of the fully electric Polestar 2 in 2020. Since its introduction, the Polestar 2 has remained the sole offering from the company. However, the lineup is set to expand with the arrival of the Polestar 3 electric SUV, which has recently commenced production in South Carolina for the American market.
Experience with Polestar 5 Prototype
The upcoming Polestar 4, which boasts a sleeker SUV design, is set to hit the U.S. market by next year, with its manufacturing for American consumers taking place at a Renault facility in South Korea, sidestepping any potential issues associated with its primary production location in China. Additionally, the company is gearing up to begin manufacturing the Polestar 5 fastback next year, with the Polestar 6 convertible expected to roll out in 2026. The automaker is currently conducting trials on new battery cells that reportedly have the capability to recharge from 10% to 80% in a mere 10 minutes.
Earlier in the year, Volvo disclosed plans to cease its financial support for Polestar, although it will maintain a roughly 18% stake in the company, thereby increasing Geely's influence over the brand. Polestar has fallen short of its lowered delivery goals for 2023, and since its initial public offering in 2022 through a merger with a SPAC, its stock values have plummeted.
