Pedro Acosta Celebrates Sprint Podium and Anticipates ‘Homecoming’ with Factory KTM Move
Pedro Acosta feels like he's returning "home" with his recent podium finish in the sprint for GasGas, expressing immense joy over his confirmed switch to the factory KTM team.
Pedro Acosta experienced a hectic schedule both on the circuit and beyond, securing a spot on the podium by finishing third in the Italian Grand Prix sprint race.
The newcomer experienced two crashes during practice sessions, but by the time qualifying arrived, he had overcome these setbacks, securing a commendable seventh place. His quick launch propelled the Red Bull GasGas Tech3 competitor towards the front, benefitting from the misfortunes of Enea Bastianini and Jorge Martin, who both fell ahead of him.
"Thrilled! This Saturday saw significant progress for us, although it began with some challenges. At the peak of the crest, I encountered a tricky situation with the front end. Consequently, I opted for a more cautious approach during the braking after the first turn, considering today was crucial for securing points."
"We are narrowing the distance to the leading competitors, making rapid advancements with our motorcycle. For this reason, we should feel pleased."
Acosta encountered an obstacle on the circuit in the form of Red Bull Factory racer Brad Binder, which appeared to hinder advancement.
"Grasping the bike's dynamics proved challenging while trailing behind him (Binder), yet once I managed to overtake him, I was quickly gaining on the leaders. Witnessing Martin's fall, I realized I had about a 1.5-second lead over Frankie (Morbidelli). At that point, I thought it was wiser to ease off slightly since I had more at stake than to benefit from pushing harder. So, I decided to pull back a bit, focusing on what lies ahead tomorrow."
Acosta openly expressed his happiness about joining KTM's factory team next season, describing the feeling as akin to returning 'home'. However, he was swift in acknowledging the positive experience he had with the GasGas KTM team.
"Reflecting on my beginnings, I remember signing my initial contract with Red Bull Rookies Cup back in 2021. Throughout the years, 2021, 2022, and 2023, I was consistently clad in orange!"
During this initial season, I exerted immense effort to secure this position, but I've come to accept that it wasn't feasible. Now, I'm extremely pleased to be donning the red colors because they've placed top-notch talent by my side, and we're already experiencing the benefits. I'm battling alongside the team, but I'm truly thrilled to return to racing in orange!
