Mercedes-AMG Unveils Latest Prototypes of the Limited-Edition Super-SL

The final testing stage has begun for the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed, a highly exclusive sports car that made its global debut as a concept in Monaco in May 2024. The company is now showcasing new prototypes of the roadster, which will have a limited production run of just 250 units, as they undergo road trials.

The event kicks off on the diverse roads of Northern Italy and progresses to the high-speed testing circuit located in Nardò, Southern Italy. This bold design of an entirely open, two-seater performance vehicle devoid of a roof and windshield pays tribute to the racing world and will undergo a rigorous test over a course exceeding 3,000 kilometers.

During these test drives, the engineering team is concentrating on a variety of tasks. The aim is to validate the high quality of the two-seater in actual driving conditions. They are ensuring that all systems and components are functioning correctly and in harmony with each other. The foundation for the PureSpeed is clearly based on the current Mercedes-AMG SL.

The eye-catching bodywork design is also assessed under various driving conditions, taking into account the stringent quality standards. Additionally, fine-tuning is carried out under high dynamic driving situations and at elevated speeds on the test track. Comprehensive vehicle testing on public roads is conducted in collaboration with project partner Pininfarina, who is recognized as an expert in small-scale production projects.

A standout feature of the two-seater is the HALO system, which takes the place of the traditional A-pillar in vehicles. This feature is inspired by the premier class of auto racing and serves to safeguard passengers in the event of an accident. The aerodynamically enhanced safety feature in the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed, similar to Formula 1, includes a hoop integrated with the car's body. Additionally, two specially designed helmets that are also aerodynamically refined offer further protection and are custom-made exclusively for the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed.
