GM Integrates BrightDrop into Chevrolet to Boost Electric Van Sales Through Expanded Dealer Network
General Motors integrates BrightDrop with Chevrolet
General Motors is merging BrightDrop, which was originally created as an independent entity concentrating on electric vehicles for corporate fleets, into its Chevrolet brand.
General Motors announced that it will expand the availability of BrightDrop vans by allowing Chevrolet's extensive dealership network to sell them. Previously, BrightDrop vans were only available at specialized dealerships. However, all Chevrolet dealers will now be able to offer these vehicles, provided they fulfill specific criteria for selling commercial electric vehicles, GM stated.

Scott Bell, the vice president of Chevy at GM, expressed in an announcement that the integration of BrightDrop into the Chevrolet range merges cutting-edge electric vehicle innovation with the reliable and extensive reach that is unique to Chevrolet.
GM plans to rebrand the vans as Chevrolet BrightDrops, offering them in two sizes: the compact 400 and the spacious 600. The company predicts a driving distance of up to 272 miles for each model when equipped with the expanded Max Range battery option. When fitted with the basic battery setup, the Chevy BrightDrop 600 is expected to cover 164 miles, while the 400 model should reach 159 miles. Additionally, the vehicles support DC rapid charging, which can provide up to 160 miles of driving distance for every hour plugged in.

In January 2021, General Motors introduced its new BrightDrop division, and by September of that year, manufacturing had commenced. The initial batch of vans reached FedEx by December 2021, positioning them among the earliest Ultium electric vehicles to be distributed to buyers. The production scale increased in 2022, leading to Ryder's rental service placing additional orders.
GM intends to maintain production of its BrightDrop vans at the CAMI Assembly facility located in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada. This plant has a history of assembling vehicles not only for various GM marques but also for Suzuki.
