F1 Legend Eddie Jordan Urges Lando Norris to Master ‘Little Things’ for Championship Glory After Monza Maneuver
Lando Norris has been encouraged to "pick up on the finer details" to become a "deserving world champion."
"We've mentioned that for Lando to be a deserving world champion, he needs to grasp these finer details."
Eddie Jordan, the iconic owner of a Formula 1 team, advised Lando Norris to pick up on certain nuances after being outmaneuvered by his McLaren teammate, Oscar Piastri, during the first lap at Monza.
Although Norris began the Italian Grand Prix from the pole position, he lost the lead by Turn 4 on the first lap.
Piastri executed a bold maneuver by passing his teammate on the outside at Turn 4.
The decision sparked extensive debate concerning McLaren's strategy in light of the "papaya tactics" radio communications.
In the newest episode of the Formula for Success podcast, Jordan praised Piastri for his move on the first lap.
He mentioned that for Norris to achieve the world champion title, he should take lessons from Piastri.
"Oscar executed flawlessly, shifting to the left to prevent Ferrari and others from advancing," Jordan said. "It seems the team overlooked the second turn. To me, Oscar's maneuver was astonishing and completely unexpected. That's what set it apart."
"It was executed with such precision and calmness. He succeeded. We've always said that for Lando to become a deserving world champion, he needs to master these finer details. He has faced Max in the past, learned from those encounters, and his speed is now incredible. He took away some valuable lessons from Monza."
"He will forever recall Monza as the moment his teammate outsmarted him. To me, Oscar's performance was extraordinary."
Former Formula 1 driver and podcast co-host David Coulthard commented, “I concur with that statement. Attempting to pass on the outside is a high-risk maneuver.”
"Achieving that at the start of the race isn't simple; it demonstrated dedication and top-tier skill."
Following the Italian Grand Prix, McLaren trails Red Bull by only eight points in the 2024 Formula 1 constructors' championship.
Regarding the drivers' standings, Norris cut Max Verstappen's lead down to 62 points with eight races remaining after Monza.
