China carried out the execution of a scientist accused of espionage in 2016, as highlighted in a documentary that unveiled 10 startling instances.
An undisclosed Chinese IT firm secured a business deal in late 2020 to gather electronic signal data across China’s extensive railway systems. This contract was awarded by an international company, which had previously conducted market research prior to its entry into the Chinese railway sector to offer technical support services.
The ministry reported that the international firm, hindered by Beijing's Covid policies from dispatching its employees to China, delegated tasks to local Chinese contractors. It also discovered that the company served a diverse clientele, including foreign intelligence bodies, defense and military organizations, and various government agencies.
The report indicated that the Chinese firm understood there could be hidden agendas from the foreign company. However, lured by the promise of a profitable agreement, it proceeded to purchase and set up the necessary apparatus as outlined in the foreign company's contract. The Chinese company also gathered data at designated sites and carried out both mobile testing and data collection across various cities and along high-speed railway routes as the foreign client had directed.
The department announced that the initiative amassed 500 gigabytes of data over a month, encompassing signals from Internet of Things transmissions, cellular and railway communications, and secure networks.
