Der neue Ford Capri (2024): Eine Hommage an die Vergangenheit oder ein Spiegelbild moderner Rivalen?
Ford Capri (2024) vs. Polestar 2: Striking Resemblance
We also notice elements of the BMW X2, Aiways U6, and even a feature from the new M5
The new Ford Capri has been causing quite a stir since its global debut a few days ago. Many believe that this hefty electric SUV, weighing over two tons, shares nothing but the name with the classic Capri. Meanwhile, several people are drawing parallels between its side profile design and that of the Polestar 2.
Indeed, when compared side by side, it's clear that the Ford Capri and the Polestar 2 are quite similar in size. The 2024 Capri model measures 4,634 millimeters in length, has a width of 1,872 millimeters, and stands at a height of 1,626 millimeters when not loaded with cargo. It has a wheelbase of 2,767 millimeters.
In contrast, let's take a look at the Polestar 2: it measures 4.61 meters in length, 1.86 meters in width, and 1.48 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2.74 meters. It's probably just a coincidence, but both the Capri and the Explorer are built on Volkswagen Group's MEB platform. However, it's clear that both models feature a design that blends elements of an SUV with a sedan's rear end.

More electric vehicles with a similarly boxy design are set to enter the market soon. We were immediately reminded of the new BMW iX2, which is 4.55 meters in length, as well as the Chinese-made Aiways U6, measuring 4.81 meters. Even the latest BMW M5 shares a visual feature with the new Capri; it sports a black plastic area by the Hofmeister kink in the C-pillar, similar to the "Capri arch" at the same location, as a nod to the past. It's clear that when it comes to retro styling, models like the new Renault 5 or the Fiat Grande Panda are leading the way.

Let's take a moment to examine the engineering behind the contemporary Ford Capri. The trunk lid opens to reveal a cargo space entry that's over a meter wide and 63 centimeters tall. Behind this is a luggage compartment with a capacity of 572 liters, which can be expanded to a maximum of 1,510 liters by folding down the second row of seats.
At launch, Ford is equipping both the rear-wheel and all-wheel drive versions with an extended-range battery utilizing Lithium-Ion-NMC (Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt) technology. The feature to pre-condition the battery has been integrated into the navigation system and can also be manually activated.
In the rear-wheel drive version, the battery offers a net capacity of 77 kWh. This power is converted by the rear motor into a peak output of 210 kW (286 horsepower), with a continuous torque of 545 Nm. As a result, the Ford Capri RWD can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.4 seconds, and its top speed is electronically limited to 180 km/h.
