Der Aston Martin Vanquish 2025: Triumph des V12 und Meisterwerk in Kohlefaser
The upcoming 2025 Aston Martin Vanquish continues the legacy of the V12 engine.
Its striking carbon fiber body turns heads wherever it goes.
For some enthusiasts, nothing beats the allure of a V12 engine. Regardless of the impressive 680 horsepower produced by the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 in the DB12, and its excellent sound, it falls short with its cylinder count. Hence, Aston Martin is reviving one of the automotive world's most iconic models with a V12 engine: the Vanquish.
Following a six-year hiatus and an unsuccessful endeavor to construct a mid-engine supercar, the Aston Martin Vanquish has made a comeback, embracing its original grand touring (GT) ethos. This audacious, potent, and opulent GT vehicle is equipped with a 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 engine, delivering a formidable 835 horsepower and capable of reaching top speeds of 345 km/h.

The engine maintains the basic dimensions of the previous Aston V12 but has undergone significant modifications to enhance its performance and torque – an impressive 1,000 Newton-meters – while also complying with increasingly strict emission regulations. The V12 is equipped with a new engine block, heads, ports, camshafts, connecting rods, turbochargers, injectors, and repositioned spark plugs. Essentially, it's been revamped in its entirety. According to Aston, this engine is indistinguishable from its predecessor in appearance.
Similar to the previous DBS Superleggera, this model pairs its engine with a rear-mounted eight-speed automatic transmission, yet like the latest Vantage and the DB12, it includes an electronically controlled limited-slip differential.
With an impressive output of 160 horsepower per liter, this engine boasts the highest specific output ever achieved by an Aston Martin V12. The 2024 Vanquish represents the pinnacle of ongoing advancement. Since the debut of the DB7 Vantage in 1999, the performance and torque of Aston Martin's premier V12 models have doubled.

The latest V12 engine boasts a series of technical enhancements including a reinforced cylinder block and connecting rods, redesigned cylinder heads with reprofiled camshafts, and upgraded intake and exhaust ports. Redesigned spark plug placement and new fuel injectors with a higher flow rate improve combustion, resulting in top-of-the-class performance and increased efficiency. Additionally, new turbochargers that operate at higher speeds and have a lower moment of inertia contribute to greater power output and more responsive throttle.
The latest turbochargers have been intricately installed with a lower inertia and an increased rotation speed (15% higher) to harness greater energy from the exhaust gases, thus supplying the engine with additional power and elevating the new V12 engine to a higher level of performance. The introduction of new injection nozzles, which offer a ten percent increase in flow rate, allows the engine to achieve its maximum power while also adhering to emission standards.
The engine also introduces a new feature called Boost Reserve, which allows the turbo pressure to be increased beyond what's needed for partial throttle, ensuring that drivers have access to extra power when required. This is achieved through a meticulous calibration of the throttle and the electronically controlled wastegate. According to Aston Martin, the final drive ratio has been selected to enable impressive top speeds, while still delivering robust acceleration – allowing the vehicle to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds.
Much like its contemporary counterparts from Aston Martin, the Vanquish features a bonded and extruded aluminum monocoque frame. However, unlike the DB12 and Vantage, its body is primarily composed of carbon fiber. Aston Martin lists the dry weight of the vehicle at 1,774 kilograms. The tires are a custom set of Pirelli P-Zero, with dimensions of 275/35 at the front and 325/30 at the rear. The Vanquish comes standard with forged wheels and carbon-ceramic brakes, which serve to manage the unsprung weight effectively.
Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with sophisticated suspension technology. The Vanquish is fitted with Bilstein DTX dampers, similar to those in the latest Vantage and DB12, and also includes a six-axis inertia measurement unit which enhances the precision in managing the dampers, electronic differential, and traction/stability control systems. There's also an innovative feature called Corner Braking that helps maintain rear stability when slowing down for a corner.
Inside, the Vanquish shares resemblances with other modern Aston Martins, featuring an updated central console that's packed with tactile controls and a custom-tailored infotainment system. One major issue with previous Aston Martin models was their lackluster cabin design, but the interior of the Vanquish appears to be anything but lackluster.
When you stack it up against the DB12, the Vanquish stretches out more, claiming extra inches in length and width while sitting closer to the ground. To be precise, it boasts a wheelbase that's extended by nearly eight centimeters, its total length swells by 16.5 cm, and it's also widened by about six centimeters. However, it's the reduction in height that really sets it apart. It unmistakably bears the Aston Martin signature, but with a more pronounced sculpting on the front bonnet and more pronounced bulges at the rear.
The distinctively truncated rear fin is a standout feature among the latest Astons, taking cues from a series of cars that Aston Martin raced with at Le Mans in the 1960s, including the DP212, DP214, and DP215. The silhouette and rear also bear resemblance to the exclusive Valour, which in turn nods to Aston's robust GTs from the 1970s. This marks only the third occasion that Aston Martin has opted to use the Vanquish moniker.
Even here, the V12 remains present:
Aston Martin has yet to reveal the cost of the upcoming Vanquish, however, it's anticipated to be priced between 250,000 to 300,000 Euros at a minimum. The price surge over the other models in the series is justified by the limited number of units set to be produced, with the company aiming to manufacture just 1,000 vehicles annually. Customers can expect the initial deliveries to commence from October 2024.
