Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Crash Allegations in Aragon MotoGP Incident with Francesco Bagnaia
Alex Marquez denies accusations: “I would never intentionally collide with another rider”
Alex Marquez firmly dismisses claims that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia, stating: 'Such actions are against my principles and the ethos of this sport'
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across certain remarks following his incident with Francesco Bagnaia during Sunday’s Aragon MotoGP race.
The duo got into a serious crash as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini racer for the third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that no additional measures were necessary because they found that neither rider was mainly at fault.
However, Marquez appears displeased with Bagnaia's remarks, which imply that the Gresini rider maintained his speed instead of steering clear to prevent a collision.
"Bagnaia explained to MotoGP.com that he could hear the other rider's engine revving up as he entered corner 13, indicating that the rider was accelerating and attempting to make contact."
"I intended to examine the data… He consistently kept the throttle open at 60 percent and 40 percent right up until the crash occurred. This behavior seems highly unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
"Upon reviewing several statements, I would like to clarify the following points:"
"I would never intentionally collide with another competitor, and I refuse to be accused of such behavior. It's against my principles and the spirit of this sport."
"The key point for me is the discussion I had with Pecco yesterday, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"Now it's time for me to relax and rejuvenate so I can be completely ready for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape without major injuries and are set to return to the track at Misano this weekend.
Alex's team-mate and sibling, Marc Marquez, clinched victory in the Aragon race. However, Jorge Martin secured second place, extending his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
