Wilco Zeelenberg to Exit Trackhouse Aprilia at End of 2024, Confirms Davide Brivio
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be exiting Trackhouse Aprilia after the 2024 season, as confirmed during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Last weekend, Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from the team when the 2024 season concludes.
Zeelenberg, who has been with the Trackhouse team since it started as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, is set to depart from the satellite Aprilia project. This move comes after the team's second season with the Noale brand and its first operating under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar, conducted before last Sunday’s Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who became a member of Trackhouse in early 2024, described Zeelenberg’s exit as a "very tough" decision. He noted that this move is part of the American-owned team's efforts to explore "some different direction".
"This [Zeelenberg's exit] was a topic of conversation," Brivio mentioned. "We made this choice together. Wilco [Zeelenberg] deserves significant recognition for his contributions."
"To be honest, when I joined, I encountered a team that he had developed over the years. Most of this team will likely remain unchanged next year, so he deserves significant recognition for his efforts."
"As Trackhouse, we believed it was necessary to explore a new path for the future. While it's unfortunate in some ways, it's also part of the business."
"It's never easy to handle, and reaching this decision has been incredibly challenging."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain at this time. The Dutchman, who previously secured a victory in the 250cc Grand Prix, initially served as a team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the Petronas SRT team, taking on the role of team manager.
