Verstappen Dismisses Red Bull “Tension” Amid Performance Dip, Eyes Comeback
Max Verstappen dismisses suggestions of "tension" at Red Bull following performance slump
Max Verstappen downplays allegations of "tension" inside Red Bull.
Max Verstappen has refuted claims of any "tension" within Red Bull amid the team's recent downturn in Formula 1 results.
Verstappen has secured victories in six out of the first nine races, demonstrating significant effort in the latest competitions.
In the past four races, it's been observed that Red Bull may not have had the fastest vehicle, as both McLaren and Ferrari have shown improved performance.
In Canada, especially under dry conditions, George Russell's Mercedes appeared to be the fastest on the track during the race.
Verstappen continues to maintain a sizeable advantage in the championship standings, further bolstered by Charles Leclerc's failure to finish in the last race.
In a conversation with Crash.net and other media outlets in Barcelona, Verstappen clarified that what is perceived as “tension” is actually a misunderstanding, explaining that it's merely Red Bull's drive to excel.
Verstappen explained, "It's not about tension. Our goal is always to excel, and we're aware that others are giving their all too."
"Our goal is to ensure we have an enjoyable weekend, as we always aim for. Should things not proceed as expected, let's not overreact. Instead, we should continue to work hard and strive for improvement.
"There are still numerous races left where we can earn a significant number of points. However, it's especially important for us to perform strongly here."
Numerous racers, Leclerc among them, anticipate a resurgence of Red Bull's initial season supremacy.
The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, known for its smooth surface and minimal kerbs, is anticipated to favor Red Bull.
Nonetheless, Verstappen is skeptical that Red Bull's lead over other teams will be as significant as it was previously in the season.
"No, I don't anticipate it mirroring the season's start," he continued. "However, we understand that typically, this circuit should favor our car somewhat more, and naturally, we're thrilled."
"Obviously, I recognize that there's been significant progress all around, with everyone feeling pretty assured. However, when you look back at the recent races we've participated in, this track should offer us a more favorable outcome."
