Verstappen Confident of “Big Margins” Improvement for RB20 by Addressing Key Weakness
Max Verstappen believes Red Bull can make significant improvements by tackling the primary flaw of their RB20 Formula 1 vehicle.
Max Verstappen believes that Red Bull has the potential to significantly enhance their F1 vehicle's performance, the RB20, if they manage to address its primary issue.
Red Bull faced their toughest weekend of the season in Monaco, with Verstappen managing only a sixth-place finish. However, he made a comeback by securing a victory at the Canadian Grand Prix, despite the Montreal race presenting its own set of difficulties.
The performance of the RB20 vehicle on kerbs and uneven surfaces has been pointed out as a significant shortfall in both competitions, sparking optimism for a contest for the championship title this year. However, Verstappen has sounded an alert to those competing against Red Bull.
"After securing his sixth win of the season in Montreal, he commented on the recent challenges, stating, “The past several races have been tough, not just tough, but filled with numerous issues from start to finish. We must aim for a smoother weekend.”
"We're facing significant challenges with the kerbs and bumps on the track. There's certainly room for improvement, and we can significantly enhance the car's performance if we manage to tackle this issue."
The current world champion believes that Red Bull has the capability to resolve the problem without sacrificing the key advantages of the RB20.
"He firmly believes that this issue can be resolved without affecting any other component of the vehicle," he elaborated.
"We're aware of this vulnerability and I want to assure you that we're diligently addressing it in an effort to resolve the issue. It's become apparent to me that it currently poses a significant challenge to our performance."
"Of course, I'm eager for circuits where there aren't as many kerbs or bumps to navigate."
"It's evident that, thus far, on weekends, certain teams excel on specific circuits, which undeniably adds an element of excitement to the competition."
Red Bull's team leader, Christian Horner, reiterated Verstappen's statements, noting: "Everything must function together, meaning you're advancing the car's aerodynamic base, yet you aim for the car to handle kerbs effectively.
"It was promising to see our performance in sector three this weekend, despite the car's harshness when navigating the final chicane."
"Throughout the race, we demonstrated strong competitiveness. Hence, even though the conditions were challenging, we managed to maintain a fast pace."
"I believe there's real potential in our performance, and if we manage to tap into that, we'll definitely observe improvements in our lap times."
