Tragic Start to School Year in Eastern China: 11 Dead as Bus Plows into School Crowd; Community Rallies with Blood Drive
Five children and six adults have perished in eastern China after a bus collided with a group at a school, leading to the driver's arrest. In response to the tragedy, a local cinema is facilitating blood donations by hosting donation vehicles, following a widespread appeal on social media to assist the numerous individuals injured in the accident.
A bus collided with a group of people outside a middle school in East China on Tuesday morning, resulting in 11 fatalities and 24 injuries.
State-run CCTV reported that the accident happened at about 7 a.m. outside Foshan Junior High School in Dongping County, Shandong Province, on the second day of the school year.
According to the report, the injured were transported to the hospital.
Dongping police reported that the tragic incident resulted in the deaths of six parents and five students. Additionally, one individual sustained severe injuries, while 12 others are currently stable. The status of the remaining victims has not been disclosed.
Authorities reported that the vehicle involved was a school bus tasked with transporting students. It went out of control as it neared an intersection and collided with a group of people. Law enforcement has taken the driver into custody, and an investigation into the incident is underway.
