Red Bull’s ‘Filming Day’ Sparks Speculation: Ricciardo and Lawson Test Drive Amid Perez’s Performance Dip
Christian Horner has provided clarification regarding the forthcoming Formula 1 test involving Daniel Ricciardo and Liam Lawson.
Red Bull's team principal, Christian Horner, emphasizes that the forthcoming Formula 1 test involving Daniel Ricciardo and Liam Lawson is merely a "filming day," stating that "it's all about content."
This week, Ricciardo and Lawson are set to pilot a 2024 VCARB Formula 1 vehicle at the Imola circuit.
The trial is being called a 'competition' to determine which racer might take over Sergio Perez's spot at Red Bull for the rest of the 2024 Formula 1 season.
Perez has found it difficult to perform at his best lately, managing to accumulate only 28 points across the previous eight races.
His recent decline in performance has endangered Red Bull's leading status in the F1 constructors' championship.
Addressing the press, which included Crash.net, following the Spa race, Horner provided clarity on the specifics of the forthcoming trial.
"Today's a day for shooting, so they'll be capturing footage. It's entirely focused on content creation," Horner remarked.
"The present vehicle is capable of covering 200 kilometers, hence both will be extensively utilized for filming."
Horner explained that the occasion was merely for shooting footage, not for testing tyres.
"He confirmed that today is indeed a day for shooting."
Evaluating Ricciardo's overall performance, he stated: "I believe he's performed satisfactorily."
"I didn't check the details of the race; I just noticed the final standing where he finished 11th [later adjusted to 10th following Russell's disqualification], and considering he began on the soft tire, it's clear he must have performed well."
It is believed that Horner will have a meeting with Helmut Marko on Monday to talk about the current circumstances at Red Bull.
This isn't the first instance of Red Bull making a mid-season switch, as they replaced Daniil Kvyat with Max Verstappen right before the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix.
During the 2019 summer break, Pierre Gasly was substituted by Alex Albon.
Horner emphasizes that supporting Perez remains the top concern.
"He elaborated, saying, "We find ourselves in an advantageous situation, having access to all the necessary information. Our main focus is to assist Checo and to grasp his requirements."
"Everyone is rooting for him to make a comeback; we're eager to witness his success."
