Optimistic Fabio Quartararo shares insights on Yamaha’s significant aerodynamic improvements
Fabio Quartararo provides insights on the latest aerodynamic enhancements to his Yamaha
Fabio Quartararo shared insights on the updated aerodynamic features Yamaha introduced at the Catalunya MotoGP.
Quartararo secured the ninth position in Barcelona, ranking as the top Japanese-made motorcycle in the race.
Significantly, he experienced the advantages of an enhancement, which he anticipates will progressively improve.
"Turning is improved and speed in corners is increased with Yamaha's aerodynamics," Quartararo mentioned.
"It's challenging to determine whether it's a significant advancement or otherwise."
"The aerodynamics don't exactly leave you saying, 'wow, this is significantly improved'."
"You'll need to become accustomed to it."
Previously, I experimented with the aerodynamics from both 2023 and 2024, finding the results mixed. During our trials in Mugello, we tested the 2022 version, which ended up being a complete failure.
"Adapting to aero is a must."
"Moving forward, it will be a positive action."
Quartararo emphasized that the real benefit of the updated aerodynamics becomes apparent “as you accumulate more laps”.
He mentioned, "I recognize the strengths. It's impossible to grasp in just five laps."
Quartararo and Yamaha participated in an exclusive testing session at Mugello before the upcoming Italian MotoGP this weekend.
They conducted trials on the aerodynamics alone, without the interference of other bikes in the race, an important move in assessing its competitive edge
"Testing new components is preferable solo," Quartararo expressed.
"When drag is present, it becomes difficult to discern whether the situation has improved or not."
"Obviously, you think about its interaction with others."
"To truly understand its advantages or disadvantages, it's best experienced solo."
The updated regulations on concessions have granted Yamaha and Honda extra days for testing, along with various other benefits.
They have the opportunity to test out their latest aerodynamics at Mugello during a private testing session before the race this weekend.
"Quartararo highlighted the advantages of securing the concessions."
Following the Mugello event, we'll head to Valencia for a couple of days dedicated to testing.
"The workload is heavy, yet rewarding. Yamaha has never operated at this level of creativity and productivity before."
"We are not introducing items simply for the sake of it.
"I've made it absolutely clear to the team: I'm not interested in trying out another chassis or swingarm. We've already gone through hundreds of tests with those."
"We've identified the source of the issue. Currently, their attention is directed towards it, and they're tackling it with intelligence."
Performance outcomes on the circuit have yet to reach remarkable levels for Quartararo and his team member, Alex Rins.
Following his commitment to a prolonged tenure with the squad, he anticipates gradual progress until Yamaha secures a leading position in MotoGP once more.
"He mentioned that after taking a minor step, there's an immediate desire to take a larger one."
"After eighteen months of stagnation, glimpsing hope on the horizon is truly uplifting."
"Quartararo expressed indifference towards the leaderboard, stating, "The race in Barcelona went smoothly for me with few incidents ahead. Overall, it was a solid performance given our current form."
"We concluded just under five seconds shy of the top five. This is a positive outcome. The sensation was positive."
"We're tracking the progress from Le Mans. The speed was satisfactory."
"I witnessed Bezzecchi and Oliveira battling it out on the final lap.
"Right from the first corner, I realized braking the motorcycle was going to be challenging."
"I stated, 'they are going to spread out'."
I slowed down well ahead of time to maintain momentum, managed to pass them, and held onto my spot until the finish.
"We were smart."
The winner of the 2021 MotoGP championship was asked about his forecast for who will clinch this year's championship title.
At present, Jorge Martin is ahead of Marc Marquez and Pecco Bagnaia in the standings.
He responded, "It doesn't matter to me who's ahead! There are plenty of other matters we need to consider, given our situation."
"Who emerges victorious? It doesn't matter to me!"
"When Pecco has a mishap on Saturday, he tends to emerge victorious on Sunday. His endurance in extended races is notable, making him, in my view, the top contender."
"However, each of the trio is remarkably speedy."
