Perez Confident of Continuing with Red Bull Beyond Belgian GP Amid Speculation
Sergio Perez confidently asserts that the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix will not mark his last appearance with Red Bull in Formula 1.
Sergio Perez is confident that his position at Red Bull in Formula 1 remains stable, despite rumors suggesting that the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix might mark his last race with the team.
Perez's prospects in Formula 1 have been widely discussed lately, especially after a series of disappointing performances starting from the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
Since the Miami event at the beginning of May, the Mexican has not achieved a position better than seventh.
Perez's inconsistent performances have put Red Bull's lead in the constructors' championship in jeopardy.
Following McLaren's top two placements at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Red Bull’s advantage has been narrowed to a mere 51 points.
Consequently, to secure the teams' championship, Perez might be substituted in the latter half of the season.
Nonetheless, Perez is unwavering in his determination to compete in the Dutch Grand Prix, which is the first race following the summer hiatus.
During a Thursday press event in Belgium, where Crash.net reporters are stationed at the paddock, Perez responded to inquiries about his certainty that the upcoming weekend's race would not mark his final appearance for Red Bull.
He responded, "That's right."
When questioned about his confidence in remaining with the team after this weekend, despite widespread rumors regarding his future, Perez was asked to explain his certainty.
"I'm aware of the contents of my contract. I understand that the team has faith in me. My primary concern is performing well on the track," he clarified.
The individual, aged 34, also disclosed that he hasn't had any conversations with Helmut Marko regarding his remarks about a dialogue concerning Perez's prospects during the summer hiatus.
Marko and Christian Horner plan to have a conversation about the possibility of replacing Perez after the Spa race concludes.
"Perez mentioned, "I need to discuss that with him. We haven't touched on that specific topic. As I mentioned, I believe everyone on the team is completely dedicated to regaining our momentum. Everything else is just rumors. The team is truly putting in a lot of effort alongside me to steer this season in the right direction."
"Securing the constructors' title is our main focus. We haven't delved into any other conversations beyond improving our performance this season."
Perez dismissed the idea that he was annoyed by Marko's remarks in the press, acknowledging that this is simply the way Red Bull functions.
"He summed up, saying, 'This is the team's way of functioning. It's just the way things are. I'm okay with that. My concentration is on the team. I aim to extract the best performance from both the team and the car. Everything else, as I mentioned, is merely speculation.
"I'm not troubled by it. I'm clear on my position. That doesn't bother me. My sole focus is to steer my season back in the right direction. Everything else, I'm quite relaxed about."
