Pedro Acosta’s Resilient P5 at Mugello: Young MotoGP Star Shines Amid Ducati Dominance
Pedro Acosta: "There was something missing, fifth place was our best"
Pedro Acosta's aspirations to be the youngest MotoGP victor are on hold for now, as Ducati took control at Mugello.
Pedro Acosta, much like his performance in the MotoGP sprint at Mugello, stood out as the top non-Ducati competitor with an outstanding showing in the grand prix.
At the start, Acosta managed to stay close to the leading quartet of Ducati riders. However, it wasn't long before Francesco Bagnaia, Jorge Martin, Enea Bastianini, and Marc Marquez pulled ahead.
Acosta, unchallenged by any competitors because of his remarkable pace, secured a smooth fifth place finish, which he later acknowledged as the best possible outcome.
Acosta admitted that the race was challenging. He explained that they lacked something at the beginning, which prevented them from keeping up with the others. Ultimately, securing fifth place was the best they could achieve on that day.
"It was crucial to earn points after two consecutive DNFs and to gain race experience, particularly before the upcoming test."
"We are generally pleased, though we strive for greater achievements and have the capability to reach them. Let's continue our efforts in this direction as we are steadily closing the gap with the leading competitors each day!"
In the GASGAS Tech 3 team, there was joy on one side with a top five finish, while Augusto Fernandez faced disappointment due to a technical problem that cut his race short.
Fernandez came back to the pit lane, signaling to his team before withdrawing from the 23-lap race.
Fernandez remarked, "It's disappointing to not complete the race once more. We encountered an uncommon technical problem, but such things can occur and there was nothing we could do about it."
"I had a strong start and felt my performance getting better with each lap, so it's disappointing that we couldn't continue and test out our strategy."
"We're going to have a test tomorrow to keep experimenting with different approaches. It's crucial to keep pushing forward because the season is lengthy, and I am confident we can get better!"
