Pedro Acosta Secures P5 Amid Ducati Domination at Mugello, Aims Higher for Future Races
Pedro Acosta stated, "We lacked a crucial element, achieving fifth place was our limit"
Pedro Acosta's ambition to set a record as the youngest victor in MotoGP history is postponed to the next event, after Ducati's overwhelming success at the Mugello circuit.
In the MotoGP race at Mugello, Pedro Acosta stood out as the highest-performing rider not on a Ducati, showcasing an exceptional effort in the grand prix.
At first, Acosta managed to keep up with the leading group of four Ducati riders, but before long, Francesco Bagnaia, Jorge Martin, Enea Bastianini, and Marc Marquez pulled ahead, leaving him behind.
Acosta, unchallenged from the rear thanks to his remarkable swiftness, managed to cross the finish line with ease, securing a fifth-place finish. He later acknowledged that this was the best outcome he could have expected.
"Truthfully, it was a challenging race," Acosta admitted. "We were lacking something in the beginning and couldn't keep up with the rest, but securing fifth place was the best outcome we could achieve today.
Earning points following two consecutive race withdrawals was crucial, as was gaining racing experience, particularly with an upcoming test in sight.
"We're generally pleased, despite our aspirations for more and knowing we are capable of achieving it. Let's continue on this path, as we are steadily narrowing the gap with the leading contenders day by day!"
In the GASGAS Tech 3 team's garage, there was mixed emotions as one side celebrated another top-five finish, while Augusto Fernandez was left disappointed due to a technical problem that prematurely ended his race.
Fernandez made his way back to the pit area, making emphatic gestures at his team before bowing out of the 23-lap race.
Fernandez remarked, "It's disappointing not to complete the race once more. We encountered a technical problem, which is unusual, yet it's something that can occur and was beyond our control."
"I had a strong beginning and sensed progress with each lap, which makes it disappointing that we couldn't advance further in the race to implement our strategies."
"Tomorrow brings another opportunity for us to experiment further; it's crucial that we persist, given the lengthy nature of the season. I'm confident in our ability to enhance our performance!"
