Oliver Bearman to Replace Suspended Kevin Magnussen for Haas in Azerbaijan GP
Ollie Bearman has been selected by Haas to replace the suspended Kevin Magnussen at the Baku race. Haas has announced that Oliver Bearman will compete in the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix this following weekend.
Haas has revealed that Oliver Bearman will replace Kevin Magnussen in the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix, due to Magnussen facing a one-race suspension.
Magnussen has been handed a one-race ban due to accumulating 12 penalty points on his licence from multiple incidents in the last year.
This implies he won't be participating in the upcoming weekend event in Baku.
Bearman has been given his second Formula 1 opportunity of the year, stepping in for Carlos Sainz during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
Bearman is set to join Haas as a full-time racer in 2025, partnering with Esteban Ocon. The upcoming weekend will offer him valuable insights and a real opportunity to gauge his competitiveness for the next year.
Discussing the recent developments, Bearman remarked, "Taking on the role of a substitute driver certainly presents its obstacles, especially with the constrained preparation period and similar factors. However, I'm in the lucky situation of having previously filled in earlier this year with Scuderia Ferrari, which gives me some valuable experience to draw upon."
"I've also participated in four FP1 sessions with the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team in the VF-24 this year, which will certainly be beneficial as I take on the entire race weekend in Baku."
"Currently, the team is performing well, and I will make every effort to be ready within the time frame we have. Our goal is to go to Azerbaijan and enjoy a successful weekend."
Team leader Ayao Komatsu expressed enthusiasm, stating, "I'm thrilled that Ollie will join Nico in piloting the VF-24 in Baku."
"He has already demonstrated significant potential during his first practice sessions and off-season testing, and he delivered an impressive performance while driving for Scuderia Ferrari in Saudi Arabia, securing points along the way.
"This presents yet another great chance for Ollie and the team to collaborate, now over the span of a full race weekend, and having Nico as a teammate to guide him is an ideal scenario he couldn’t hope for more."
In his first Formula 1 race for Ferrari, Bearman made a notable entry by securing the seventh position in Saudi Arabia.
