Miguel Oliveira Embraces Yamaha Challenge: Aiming for a Swift MotoGP Revival Amidst Technical Rule Changes
Miguel Oliveira discusses choosing Yamaha: "I'm confident I can contribute positively"
"Despite the upcoming changes in [technical] regulations in two years, Yamaha is eager to return to a leading position as quickly as they can."
Miguel Oliveira is set to ride his third distinct MotoGP motorcycle in the upcoming season, transitioning from Trackhouse Aprilia to the newly established Pramac Yamaha team.
Trackhouse and Pramac provide availability to motorcycles with factory specifications.
However, since 2022, the M1 has not secured a win and has been absent from the podium for nearly a year. In contrast, the RS-GP has achieved four MotoGP victories since 2022 and has placed in the top 3 ten times this season, including both Sprint races and GPs.
In the constructors' rankings, Aprilia trails only behind Ducati, with Yamaha positioned fourth, just ahead of Honda, among the five contenders.
Nonetheless, among Aprilia's podium finishes, only one was credited to Oliveira, who secured second place in the Sachsenring Sprint, placing him 13th in the global championship standings.
The rider from Portugal, who has clinched five MotoGP victories with KTM, shared that he is notably encouraged by the strides Yamaha is taking to rejuvenate its performance in MotoGP.
Oliveira expressed to MotoGP.com his confidence in making an impact, stating, "I genuinely think I can contribute positively there." He added, "With Yamaha's fresh strategy, we could achieve favorable outcomes more quickly."
"That's the element that truly 'influenced' my choice."
It's quite apparent from an external viewpoint how their strategy, encompassing both testing and overall management, is focused on achieving competitiveness without significant delays.
"Despite the upcoming changes in the [technical] regulations set to take effect in two years, Yamaha is eager to reclaim its leading position as soon as it can. They are actively making strides towards this goal."
"Moreover, Pramac will act as another factory team. We're going to have identical machinery. I believe this is a truly positive development, and we should eagerly anticipate it."
Pramac, who operate with Ducati equipment, are not just the current champions of the MotoGP teams’ category but also top the individual riders’ leaderboard with Jorge Martin.
"Oliveira expressed his excitement about joining what he described as one of the top teams in the paddock, saying he's eager to meet the team members and start working together."
Oliveira has inked a contract for two years, directly with the Yamaha manufacturing team. It's anticipated that Jack Miller will be announced as his partner in the team.
Newcomer Ai Ogura is set to fill Oliveira's position at Trackhouse.
