Lewis Hamilton Triumphs at British Grand Prix, Opening Up About Win Drought Doubts and Emotional Victory
Lewis Hamilton Discloses Uncertainties Amidst Victory Lapse Led Him to Reconsider His F1 Career
“In the journey, my mind was flooded with numerous thoughts and uncertainties, to moments when I contemplated ending my career.”
Following his victory at the British Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton disclosed that the dry spell he experienced in F1 was filled with numerous uncertainties, prompting him to reconsider his career in racing.
Hamilton finally clinched a Formula 1 victory, securing first place at the 2024 British Grand Prix this weekend.
Prior to this weekend, Hamilton had not experienced a win since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, which was the last race before the notorious final battle with Max Verstappen in Abu Dhabi.
In challenging circumstances, the seven-time world champion executed a flawless race to secure his 104th Formula 1 win and his ninth victory at Silverstone.
Hamilton was tearful post-race, shedding tears as he replied to his race engineer Peter Bonnington over the team radio.
Subsequently, he was captured in photographs sharing a hug with his father, Anthony Hamilton, in the parc fermé following
Looking back on an extraordinary day at Silverstone, Hamilton shared with Sky Sports, "My heart's still pounding. I've experienced so many moments here before. Crossing that finish line, I felt a sense of release, something I suppose I've been carrying with me for quite some time.
"The conclusion of the victory brought out more emotions in me than I've ever felt before. I often questioned why tears never came to me. I'd seen Rubens Barrichello in tears… and thought, that's not me, but this time, the emotions overwhelmed me. I believe the challenges of 2021, striving to keep pushing forward, combined with the tough times our team has faced, really struck a chord with me."
"Throughout the journey, my head was filled with numerous uncertainties and moments when I felt like giving up. However, pushing through, persevering, and eventually overcoming those challenges has genuinely given me the most incredible sense of accomplishment I've ever felt."
Hamilton expressed his gratitude towards his supporters for giving him strength through those challenging moments.
He further added, "I am absolutely certain that with the support of my fans, the individuals I have the opportunity to engage with globally, especially here in the UK, I can achieve what I do."
"It's still surreal to me that my childhood was in Stevenage… my father came around the corner to present me with my initial helmet. I assumed my only supporters would be my mom and dad. Having such backing is truly amazing. It really boosts your spirits to witness that kind of support."
"They're incredibly kind – either presenting you with a gift or emitting a vibe full of positivity. It's one aspect that motivates me to keep moving forward. I'm simply concentrating on maintaining my inner calm with each passing day."
