Jorge Martin to Enter Crucial Ducati Discussions Post-Mugello Amidst Championship Lead
Jorge Martin confirms plans to engage in crucial negotiations with Ducati immediately following the race in Mugello.
Jorge Martin is at the forefront of the MotoGP championship, holding a lead greater than the combined points of a grand prix and a sprint victory. This puts him in a position where he cannot be overtaken in the standings during this weekend's event at Mugello, regardless of any outcomes
The Pramac Ducati competitor has showcased exceptional performance throughout the season, with a fall while leading in Jerez marking his sole error to date.
Apart from his performance at COTA, Martin has secured a spot on the podium at every race, achieving victories in Portimao and Le Mans, along with sprint race triumphs in Qatar, Jerez, and again in Le Mans.
Martin, who is competing with Marc Marquez for the opportunity to join Francesco Bagnaia at the official Ducati team in the upcoming season, is reportedly close to securing that position.
However, the Spaniard expressed a desire to avoid being entangled in any contract talks before the weekend, stating, "The press and media are constantly engaging in speculation, so you inevitably have to deal with this information, and it's part of their role."
"My responsibility is to race, and I'll make sure to stay highly concentrated. Like I've mentioned previously, this weekend is crucial for both my team and Ducati, so my attention will be entirely on this."
"Monday, Tuesday – there will be an opportunity for us to talk and let's wait and see the outcome."
On the circuit, Martin aims to challenge Bagnaia, having secured the runner-up position in Catalunya behind the Italian, whereas in the previous season at Mugello, Bagnaia clinched victory, leaving the Pramac competitor in his wake.
"Martin started off by saying, "This weekend is going to be significant. It's not just my team's local Grand Prix but also Ducati's."
"I'm also aiming to enhance my performance at Montmelo. Despite the challenges throughout the weekend, I managed to significantly better my performance from Saturday to Sunday."
"I was on the brink of winning, but Pecco was outstanding and handled it far better than I did.
"I believe I'm extremely concentrated on the weekend and comprehend our requirements."
"Last year, I finished in second place, so I'm aiming to narrow the lead with Pecco, who, in my opinion, is the top contender."
