Jenseits des Urbanen: Der Jeep Avenger 4xe (2024) rollt mit Allrad und Hybrid-Power an
The 2024 Jeep Avenger 4xe arrives featuring four-wheel drive and a 48V hybrid system.
Will increased power and enhanced off-road capabilities finally make the Avenger a true Jeep?
Unveiled as a concept at the 2022 Paris Motor Show, the Jeep Avenger 4xe is the all-wheel drive variant of the compact SUV. Details on its specs have been scarce until now, with the production model on its way.
The name "4xe" reveals quite a bit about the propulsion system: It features the same 136 horsepower mild hybrid engine found in the Alfa Romeo Junior, which is made up of a 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and a pair of electric motors. However, the updates to the Jeep Avenger 4xe aren't limited to what's under the hood: It also boasts aesthetic enhancements to both the exterior and interior, alongside mechanical upgrades.

Exterior
The four-wheel-drive Jeep Avenger, which already strives to honor its brand's heritage in its front-wheel-drive model, fully embraces the off-road ethos with redesigned features and fresh particulars. It starts with the front and rear bumpers made of scratch-resistant material, a more rugged lower grille, protection for the radar system, and fog lights that have been repositioned higher for improved road illumination. Additionally, a new roof rack has been added along with a rear tow hook, which is essential for any serious off-road vehicle.

Included as standard are the rugged M&S tires, while there's an option for the more specialized All Terrain 3PMSF tires that offer enhanced traction on the most challenging landscapes.
Finally, it's worth mentioning the specific improvement in approach angles compared to the front-wheel-drive variant. The all-wheel-drive Jeep Avenger Hybrid now boasts an approach angle of 22 degrees at the front, a breakover angle of 21 degrees, and a departure angle of 35 degrees at the rear, alongside a ground clearance of 210 millimeters and a water fording depth of 400 millimeters.
Interior
The interior design of the Jeep Avenger 4xe essentially stays the same. In keeping with the slightly more rugged exterior, the seat covers are made from washable, durable materials. However, the digital dashboard, the central 10.25-inch display, and the fairly well-organized space distribution remain unchanged.
Drive System
Moving on to the most intriguing aspect: the propulsion system of the Jeep Avenger 4xe. As mentioned before, it features the identical mild-hybrid setup found in the Alfa Romeo Junior, integrating a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder gasoline engine with two electric motors, each producing 21 kW and dedicated to one axle. This configuration delivers a total output of 136 horsepower.
The vehicle is also equipped with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. There's no information provided about the battery, however, given its corporate lineage, it's likely to have a gross capacity of 900 Wh, which should enable it to cover a certain distance in electric mode. The official performance figures are a top speed of 194 km/h and the ability to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds.
The Jeep Avenger 4xe's four-wheel-drive system offers multiple operating modes such as Auto, Snow, Sand, Mud, and Sport through its Select Terrain feature, which maximizes the capabilities of the powertrain and utilizes the electric boost on the rear wheels.
When the Jeep Avenger 4xe is set to 'Auto' mode, it operates the gasoline engine along with both electric motors at speeds up to 30 km/h, ensuring maximum traction with an even torque distribution between the front and rear. As the speed increases from 30 to 90 km/h, the rear motor is engaged only when necessary, while remaining connected to the rear wheels for quick response if needed. At speeds exceeding 90 km/h, the vehicle functions like a typical mild hybrid, meaning it's a front-wheel drive SUV with the rear motor disengaged.
Additional from Jeep:
The Avenger's new four-wheel drive also introduces a significant innovation: the multilink rear suspension system.
Pricing
Orders for the Jeep Avenger 4xe will commence at the end of 2024, with the cost yet to be determined. Considering the existing price chart, it's anticipated that the starting price will exceed the €26,000 mark of the front-wheel-drive Avenger Latitude equipped with a 100 horsepower 1.2 turbo petrol engine. However, the base model is expected to be priced below €30,000.
Regarding the features, it is understood that the latest models dubbed "Upland" and "Overland" will be introduced, likely showcasing a unique and practical off-road design.
