Hamilton’s Leap to Ferrari: A Strategic Misstep or a Fresh Start After Silverstone Triumph?
Is Lewis Hamilton second-guessing his decision to leave Mercedes for Ferrari?
"He might be reflecting on his choice now, wondering if it was the correct move."
Lewis Hamilton could be contemplating leaving Mercedes following his triumph at Silverstone.
Hamilton clinched victory at the F1 British Grand Prix on Sunday, marking his first win since 2021.
This marked his final domestic race as part of Mercedes, a team closely associated with his achievements, as he is set to join Ferrari in the coming year.
Earlier this year, Hamilton announced his decision to join Ferrari in 2025, at a time when Mercedes seemed to be lagging significantly behind in advancements.
Now, with Russell's victory in Austria and Hamilton's triumph at Silverstone, Mercedes has equaled Ferrari's number of grand prix wins for the current season.
"Occasionally, you require a shift, something different must occur to reignite your appetite," Jenson Button commented on Sky Sports following the British Grand Prix.
Numerous drivers have demonstrated this, subsequently enhancing their performance. Take Sebastian Vettel as a case in point.
"Once he's gone to sleep, ideally after enjoying some beers, he might start to ponder his future – 'did I make the correct choice?'"
"There's a possibility that if Lewis heads to that team, [Ferrari] might experience a resurgence."
Naomi Schiff remarked, “Just a few races prior, consecutive wins for Mercedes were beyond our anticipations.
"In this sport, situations can transform in an instant."
"He holds the record for the most enduring partnership with a Formula 1 team in the sport's history."
"Refreshing things and trying something new is always delightful."
"He has emerged as the oldest victor in racing within the 21st century. Therefore, he's nearing the conclusion of his professional journey and it could be a good time to explore new opportunities. Competing for Ferrari is considered a privilege.
"At the moment, their priority should be to conclude this season spectacularly."
After completing 12 of the 20 races scheduled for this year, Mercedes appears to be in a more advantageous position compared to Ferrari.
At the beginning of the season, Ferrari was the closest rival to Red Bull, but lately, McLaren and Mercedes have surpassed them in performance.
Rumors about Mercedes' potent 2026 engine as the new era kicks off are also looking good for the Brackley squad.
However, at that time, Hamilton will be competing for additional wins at Silverstone while donning Ferrari's iconic red.
