Hamilton Clashes with McLaren’s Stella Over Verstappen’s Driving Comments
Lewis Hamilton counters McLaren's assertion regarding his clashes with Max Verstappen
Lewis Hamilton has expressed his dissent towards McLaren leader Andrea Stella's perspective on Max Verstappen's racing conduct.
At Silverstone, Lewis Hamilton expressed his disagreement with McLaren leader Andrea Stella's opinion that Max Verstappen's bold driving style stems from a lack of penalties for his racing behavior during their 2021 Formula 1 championship fight, according to Lewis Larkam.
During the final moments of the previous week's Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring, an altercation occurred between Verstappen and Lando Norris as they vied for the top position. Following this incident, McLaren's team leader, Stella, expressed the belief that Verstappen's persistent aggressive racing style stems from a lack of adequate penalties for comparable situations involving Hamilton in 2021.
"Stella mentioned to Sky Sports F1 in Austria that she believes everyone globally would recognize who is at fault, apart from a select few. She emphasized that avoiding a frank discussion about these issues would only cause them to resurface."
"They've returned today because their previous grievances, particularly the altercations involving Lewis that warranted stricter penalties, were not adequately resolved."
During Thursday's FIA press conference at Silverstone, before the upcoming British Grand Prix, Hamilton was questioned about his alignment with Stella's perspective. He firmly responded, stating: "I don't share that opinion, no."
Norris then intervened, stating, "I'm convinced Lewis would have concurred with that a couple of years back, maybe two or three years ago!"
"Undoubtedly, there were certain instances that stood out, but generally speaking, I'll always support Andrea's statements. In my view, Andrea demonstrates a significant level of insight and thoughtfulness in his speech and topics of discussion."
"Without a doubt, I believe some elements hold truth, and I concur with Andrea's observation. However, it's important to note that perspectives can shift significantly when you're directly experiencing the situation."
"I believe it's important to understand the nuances in his speech, as pronunciation and certain expressions can alter meanings. Overall, however, I concur with Andrea's perspective."
Hamilton acknowledged that he approaches races against Verstappen in a unique way, attributing this difference to Verstappen's known aggressive racing style.
However, the seven-time world champion refrained from commenting on the incident between Verstappen and Norris in Austria, stating, "it's unrelated to me."
When asked for his thoughts on the matter, Hamilton responded, "It didn't really affect me. My focus was elsewhere, primarily on my own performance and celebrating the team's victory."
When questioned about offering guidance to Norris, Hamilton responded, “Again, I believe there's no need. They’ve been competing against each other for many years.”
