Hamilton Accuses Verstappen of “Hostility” After Tense Hungarian GP Face-off
Lewis Hamilton addresses Max Verstappen's "animosity" remarks following the Hungarian Grand Prix.
"Therefore, I believe there shouldn't be any animosity. However, it seems there always is from his end."
Lewis Hamilton has charged Max Verstappen with displaying "aggressiveness" after their most recent clash during the F1 Hungarian Grand Prix.
In the race for the last podium position at the Hungaroring, Verstappen briefly took to the air while attempting a maneuver to pass Hamilton at Turn 1.
Verstappen braked too late, causing his front wheels to lock up while Hamilton was attempting to make the turn into the corner.
The individual from the Netherlands believed that Hamilton had changed his position while braking, whereas the seven-time world champion dismissed the idea that he was at fault with amusement.
Following a post-race inquiry, the officials concluded that no measures would be taken regarding the incident.
This isn't the initial instance where the ex-Formula 1 championship contenders have clashed on the circuit.
During the post-race FIA press briefing, Hamilton elaborated on why he believes hostility from Verstappen is inevitable.
He explained: "From my recollection, after we had overtaken a slower car, I approached the braking area. Suddenly, Max was attempting to pass the car behind me, prompting me to shift position defensively."
"I made sure there was ample space on the inside, yet Max ended up closing it off, taking a different path than I was. My direction was set around the bend, but he zipped across in front of me. It seemed like a typical racing situation.
"Mistakes like that are common and understandable. Therefore, I believe there shouldn't be any animosity involved. However, it seems there will always be some from his perspective."
Hamilton delivered yet another impressive performance, following up his victory at Silverstone with another podium finish.
The outcomes from Sunday have propelled him past Sergio Perez and George Russell in the Formula 1 drivers' standings, setting him up in a better position before the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix this weekend.
Additionally, this marked his 200th career podium finish in Formula 1.
He commented on the milestone, stating, "No, the figure itself doesn't really matter to me. What comes to mind are these two young individuals. They were just babies when my journey began, so… Truly, it prompts me to reflect on the entire experience and all the incredible individuals I've had the opportunity to collaborate with.
"I was brought on board by McLaren at the age of 13, and I've always held a deep affection for the team. Throughout our shared experiences, including winning my first World Championship, and then witnessing their struggles, it's truly heartwarming to see them rise again. I'm genuinely pleased."
"I have immense gratitude for being here alongside my previous team; they're like family to me. Today's race was quite challenging, and honestly, I never envisioned reaching 200 podium finishes. How many races have I participated in? Around 340, if I recall correctly?"
"Alright, the score is pretty decent, and it's all thanks to the amazing individuals I've had the privilege of collaborating with on both teams."
