Ferrari Boss Vasseur Unfazed by Alonso’s Bold Prediction for Upcoming F1 Races
"Ferrari chief dismisses Fernando Alonso’s speculation"
Fred Vasseur has reacted to Fernando Alonso's confident forecast regarding Ferrari's F1 chances.
Ferrari chief Fred Vasseur has replied to Fernando Alonso's statement regarding the squad's chances in the forthcoming Formula 1 competitions.
Following the Dutch Grand Prix, the driver from Aston Martin confidently forecasted that Ferrari would emerge as the dominant force in the upcoming races at their home circuit in Italy and the Singapore Grand Prix.
Since the season began, Ferrari has fallen behind Red Bull and now seems to be surpassed by both McLaren and Mercedes in the rankings.
The Italian team secured a surprising third-place finish at the Zandvoort circuit, bouncing back impressively from a poor showing in qualifying. Charles Leclerc finished notably behind the leader in sixth place, while Carlos Sainz was eliminated earlier in the second qualifying round (Q2).
Alonso asserted that Ferrari is expected to be the top contenders in two out of the upcoming three races.
"He suggested that while Mercedes might have inconsistent performances, teams like McLaren, Red Bull, and Ferrari consistently have the potential to secure podium finishes every race weekend," he remarked.
"In the upcoming pair of races, excluding Baku, Ferrari is expected to lead the pack. Based on last year's performances in Monza and Singapore, along with Leclerc's victory in Monaco this season, it's anticipated that they will be the top contenders for Singapore."
When questioned about Alonso's remarks, Ferrari team principal Vasseur swiftly dismissed the idea that his squad is considered the frontrunner.
"Vasseur mentioned that if there's an attempt to exert pressure, it's clear to him that he will not be paying attention to Fernando Alonso's tweets."
"I'm not on Twitter, so I don't require anyone to inform me whether we're considered the favorites or not.
"Our strategy will remain unchanged regardless of the circumstances. I am optimistic that we will see an improvement in our performance in the upcoming two or three occurrences."
"Last year, our performance on these tracks was notably superior."
"Once more, it comes down to the specifics. Our improved condition in the short corner will be advantageous. Achieving a progress of one or two tenths could be a decisive factor."
"We're aware too that everyone is getting better. We recognize as well that there was a significant gap between us and Lando today, indicating we were quite behind. This suggests we have a considerable amount of work ahead of us."
"I'll never approach a race at Monza, Baku, or any other track thinking it's going to be a walk in the park."
