The 2025 Aston Martin Vanquish is making a comeback with its V12 engine intact

Its stunning carbon fiber body turns heads wherever it goes

For some enthusiasts, nothing beats the allure of a V12 engine. Despite the DB12's 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine delivering an impressive 680 horsepower and sounding magnificent, for them, it falls short in cylinder count. That's why Aston Martin is reviving one of the automotive world's most illustrious monikers with a V12 under the hood: the Vanquish.

After a six-year hiatus and an unsuccessful attempt to construct a mid-engine supercar, the Aston Martin Vanquish has made a comeback, going back to its original grand touring (GT) foundations. This audaciously large, powerful, and opulent GT car is equipped with a 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 engine, delivering 835 horsepower and capable of reaching top speeds of 345 km/h.

The engine maintains the same basic dimensions as the current V12 model from Aston, but it has been significantly revamped to enhance both power and torque, which now peaks at a staggering 1,000 Newton-meters. In order to boost performance and meet the ever-tightening emission regulations, the V12 has been fitted with a new block, heads, attachments, camshafts, connecting rods, turbochargers, injectors, and relocated spark plugs. In essence, it has been wholly transformed. According to Aston, the engine is unrecognizable from its predecessor.

Similar to the previous DBS Superleggera, the engine is paired with a rear-mounted eight-speed automatic transmission, but like the latest Vantage and the DB12, it also features an electronically controlled limited-slip differential.

Boasting an impressive 160 horsepower per liter, this engine sets a new record for the most specific power output ever achieved by an Aston Martin V12. The upcoming 2024 Vanquish represents the pinnacle of ongoing development. Since the launch of the DB7 Vantage in 1999, the performance and torque figures for Aston Martin's leading V12 models have doubled.

The latest V12 engine boasts several advanced features, including a reinforced cylinder block and connecting rods, redesigned cylinder heads with reprofiled camshafts, and re-engineered intake and exhaust ports. The spark plugs have been repositioned and the fuel injectors are new, offering a higher flow rate which enhances combustion, leading to top-of-its-class performance and increased efficiency. Additionally, the introduction of new turbochargers that operate at higher speeds and have less inertia contributes to greater power and a more responsive throttle.

The latest turbochargers have been installed, designed with a lower moment of inertia and an increased rotation speed of 15%, to enhance energy extraction from exhaust gases, boost engine performance, and elevate the new V12 engine to unprecedented levels of power. Additionally, the introduction of new injection nozzles, delivering a flow rate that's increased by ten percent, allows the engine to achieve its peak power while also meeting emissions standards.

The engine also introduces a new feature called Boost Reserve, which allows for an increase in turbo pressure beyond what's needed for partial throttle, ensuring that when the driver requires extra power, it's readily available. This is achieved through precise coordination between the throttle and the electronically controlled wastegate. Aston Martin states that the final drive ratio has been selected to enable a top speed, yet acceleration remains robust, clocking 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds.

Like all contemporary Aston Martin vehicles, the Vanquish features an aluminum monocoque frame that's bonded and extruded, but unlike the DB12 and Vantage, its body is primarily composed of carbon fiber. Aston Martin has declared that the Vanquish has a dry weight of 1,774 kilograms. The car rides on a custom set of Pirelli P-Zero tires, with dimensions of 275/35 at the front and 325/30 at the rear. The standard package also includes forged wheels and carbon-ceramic brakes, which help to reduce unsprung weight.

Additionally, the vehicle incorporates advanced suspension technology. The Vanquish is equipped with Bilstein DTX dampers, similar to those found in the new Vantage and the DB12, and also boasts a six-axis inertia measurement unit that allows for more accurate management of the dampers, the electronic differential, and the traction/stability control systems. Moreover, there is an innovative feature called Corner Braking which ensures the vehicle's rear stability when braking into a turn.

The interior of the Vanquish mirrors that of other modern Aston Martins, featuring a revamped central console replete with tactile controls and a bespoke entertainment system. One of the major criticisms of previous Aston Martins was the lackluster interior, but the cabin of the Vanquish appears to be anything but lackluster.

When compared to the DB12, the Vanquish boasts increased dimensions, being longer, wider, and shorter in stature. Its wheelbase has been extended by nearly eight centimeters, the total length has expanded by 16.5 cm, and the width has grown by over six centimeters. However, it maintains a lower profile due to its reduced height. The vehicle certainly bears the unmistakable mark of an Aston, featuring a more sculpted bonnet at the front and pronounced bulges at the rear.

The sharply cut-off rear fin is a distinctive feature among the new Aston Martins, taking inspiration from a series of cars the brand raced with at Le Mans during the 1960s: the DP212, DP214, and DP215. The silhouette and rear design also bear resemblance to the limited-edition Valour, which in turn nods to the robust GTs from Aston in the 1970s. This marks only the third occasion that Aston Martin has employed the Vanquish name.

The presence of V12 engines can still be found in this area.

Aston Martin has yet to disclose the cost of the upcoming Vanquish, however, it is expected to be priced between 250,000 to 300,000 Euros at a minimum. The price surge relative to other models in its lineup can be attributed to its limited production run, as the company intends to manufacture merely 1,000 units annually. Customers can anticipate the initial deliveries to commence from October 2024 onwards.
