Chinese authorities initiate probes into allegations of tainted goji berries
National media reveals illegal substances used to enhance the appearance and longevity of the berries
Officials in Golmud, located in Qinghai province, and Jingyuan County in Gansu province announced on Monday that they have established dedicated task forces to probe into the matter.
"The findings of the inquiry and the management of the case will be disclosed to the public promptly," stated the officials in Golmud.
"Individuals accountable for the crimes will face strict penalties as prescribed by the law."
The food safety committee in Jingyuan released a comparable announcement.
