Documentary unveils that China carried out the execution of a scientist accused of espionage in 2016, highlighting this as one of ten startling incidents.
The report mentions that in late 2020, an undisclosed Chinese IT firm secured a business deal to gather electronic signal data across China's extensive railway systems. This contract was from an overseas company, which previously conducted market research prior to entering the Chinese railway sector to offer technical support services.
The ministry reported that the international firm, hindered by Beijing's Covid restrictions from dispatching its staff to China, delegated the tasks to local Chinese suppliers. It was also revealed that this company served a broad clientele, encompassing foreign intelligence bodies, defense and military sectors, as well as governmental agencies.
The report indicated that the Chinese firm knew the overseas company could have hidden agendas, yet, lured by an attractive deal, it proceeded to purchase and set up the equipment as stipulated in the foreign company's contract. The Chinese company gathered data at specific sites and carried out mobile testing and data collection across various cities and along high-speed railway routes as directed by the international client.
The department reported that the initiative gathered 500 gigabytes of data over a month, encompassing signals from Internet of Things transmissions, mobile and railway communications, and secure networks.
