Bezzecchi’s Battle Continues: Struggles at Catalunya Highlight Ongoing Issues with Ducati GP23
Marco Bezzecchi's ongoing challenges persist: "I'm constantly tugging on the handlebars to make turns"
The challenging outset of 2024 for Marco Bezzecchi didn't ease up during the Catalunya MotoGP event.
In the Catalunya MotoGP, while Fabio Di Giannantonio surged ahead to secure a fifth-place finish towards the end, Marco Bezzecchi faced yet another challenging race.
Oliveira edged out Bezzecchi for the tenth position, ending up as the final rider among the quartet of Ducati competitors piloting GP23 motorcycles.
"Obviously, it was a challenging weekend, as evidenced by the outcome," Bezzecchi remarked. "There's not much else to mention, but it's always beneficial to gain experience and collect useful data that we can take back, analyze, and use to improve for the upcoming races.
"Regrettably, the issue I consistently face here with understeer and braai-allcreator.com">king the motorcycle remained unchanged over the weekend, as we couldn't make any progress in improving it."
During the race, I had to carefully handle the front tire since it began to show signs of wear sooner than expected.
"However, handling an excessive amount is challenging; while managing is a standard part of this course, an overload complicates speeding up. I just couldn't achieve the necessary speed."
Bezzecchi swiftly refuted the idea that his persistent challenges this season, especially in Catalunya, stemmed from his approach to riding.
The Italian remarked, “I enjoy the circuit and it's a stunning one, yet it doesn't boil down to the style of riding.
"I had difficulty finding comfort on the bike all weekend long. Despite our efforts in experimenting with various adjustments, we were unable to pinpoint a solution. This remains the primary concern."
Upcoming for Bezzecchi is his local race at Mugello, where he anticipates a boost of positive energy.
"Bezzecchi expressed his desire for a turnaround in his performance, stating, 'I'm optimistic because I'm in dire need of some good energy.'"
"I'm uncertain about what lies ahead, but I'm optimistic for improvement. Mugello is a circuit I really enjoy, so I'm hoping to progress there."
Bezzecchi revealed that even though he has been analyzing the performance data of both Di Giannantonio and Marc Marquez throughout the weekend, he has yet to gain any advantage from understanding their strengths.
"Bezzecchi mentioned, “When I review everyone's data, I observe that Diggia excels in releasing the brake, which is precisely where I face my biggest challenge.”
"Regrettably, despite my efforts to disengage the brake in the same manner he, Marc, and the riders of 23 other bikes did, I was unsuccessful."
"However, whenever I attempt this maneuver, I consistently experience significant understeer, and the motorcycle struggles to make the turn. As a result, I find myself continuously tugging on the handlebars to facilitate the turn, which ultimately ruins the front tire."
"We need to discover a method that enhances the bike's turning capability without having to manually compel it to turn."
