Bagnaia Reflects on Team Dynamics and Future as Ducati’s Chosen One Amidst Martin and Marquez’s Battle for Seat
Bagnaia expresses envy over Martin, Marquez's battle for Ducati position: "I wish I had choices too"
Francesco Bagnaia remarked, "Honestly, I feel a touch envious because I don't have choices [laughs]. But it's all positive; I'm totally committed to what lies ahead. Ducati was my choice a long time ago, and they picked me as well."
As Jorge Martin and Marc Marquez fiercely compete to be his colleague next year, Francesco Bagnaia is comfortably secured with a long-term contract with Ducati for multiple MotoGP seasons.
Martin seems to be the frontrunner to take over Enea Bastianini's spot. However, when questioned if having a secured future aids him in the championship battle, Bagnaia replied, "I'm slightly envious for not having choices [laughs]. But it's fine, I'm really excited about what lies ahead for me.
Years back, I made a decision to go with Ducati, and they reciprocated. Our journey together has been fantastic, and I'm extremely satisfied with how things are. There's nothing more I could wish for.
"The bicycle stands out as the finest. My affection for my squad is immense. Collaboratively, we're achieving remarkable success and our advancement is impressive."
"I'm really pleased and it grants me greater stability. I don't need to concern myself with anything beyond my goal."
Bagnaia aims to improve his luck in sprint races, expressing confidence in his capabilities. Despite a challenging 2024 season in these events for the double MotoGP title-holder, Bagnaia's results in the main races have kept him in the championship hunt, trailing the leader Martin by 39 points, as the Ducati team's star rider continues to compete.
Bagnaia has not managed to secure a podium finish in any sprint race this year, a trend that seemed poised to shift during the recent Barcelona event, where he fell from a commanding lead on the last lap, preventing a change in his season's fortunes.
In grand prix events, Bagnaia has transformed his challenges in short races into triumphs on Sundays, securing victories in half of this season's races so far.
Discussing his prospects for improving his performance on Saturdays, Bagnaia is optimistic, feeling it's only a matter of time before things change. "Truthfully, it's not that I lack speed or that I'm having difficulties," he stated.
Examining the past three sprint events, I had the potential to contend for victory in Jerez but encountered an issue when I came into contact with Brad [Binder]. Following that, during the race in Le Mans, I faced a technical issue related to the bike's electronics which forced me to withdraw.
"In the previous race, I was ahead by 0.7 seconds and had everything under perfect control."
"An accident might occur, yet the possibility exists. We consistently possess the strength to contend for victory in the sprint."
"I simply require a touch more fortune to complete one. The possibility exists."
