Trackhouse Aprilia Announces Departure of Long-Time Manager Wilco Zeelenberg at End of 2024 Season
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will exit Trackhouse Aprilia after the 2024 season, as confirmed during the Aragon MotoGP.
Last weekend, Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg would be departing from the team at the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who initially joined the Trackhouse team when it first started as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project following its second season with the Noale brand, and its first operating under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar before last Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who became a member of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, discussed Zeelenberg’s exit, describing it as a “very hard” decision. He noted that this move is part of the American-owned team's efforts to explore “some different direction.”
Brivio explained, "We talked about Zeelenberg leaving and made this decision together. Wilco deserves a lot of praise for his contributions."
"To be frank, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has developed over the years. Moreover, this team is largely staying the same next year, so he deserves a lot of recognition for what he has established."
"At Trackhouse, we felt it was necessary to explore a new path for the future. While it's unfortunate on one hand, it's a business decision on the other."
"It's never easy to deal with, and reaching this decision has been incredibly challenging."
The future prospects for Zeelenberg remain uncertain. The Dutchman, who previously won a 250cc Grand Prix, served as the team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT squad.
