Pedro Acosta Seeks Redemption at Misano 2: A Rookie’s Revenge Mission in Emilia Romagna MotoGP
Tech3: Pedro Acosta is “seeking redemption” for Misano 1
“We understand that [Pedro Acosta] is eager for redemption and will go to great lengths to set things right.”
This weekend's MotoGP event in Emilia Romagna presents Pedro Acosta with a rare opportunity to overcome the typical challenges faced by new riders.
Acosta has participated in all grands prix since the season began in Qatar, despite not having previous experience on MotoGP tracks.
In Lusail, the opportunity arose during a pre-season test, but for 'Misano 2', he will have the advantage of participating in actual qualifying and race events for the first time, as well as an Official testing day on September 9th.
Throughout the San Marino weekend, Acosta showed impressive speed, starting from the second row and securing sixth place in the Sprint before crashing in the Grand Prix. During the test, he maintained his competitiveness and emerged as the fastest KTM rider, finishing in fourth place.
Acosta mentioned that the upcoming Misano 2 weekend will be unique because they raced there just last week, which he hopes will assist in optimizing the bike's setup.
"Monday's test at Misano held significant value for us as we experimented with various elements that I hope we can utilize in the upcoming races of the season."
“We’ll check if the weather conditions are favorable and try to keep up or even enhance the speed we achieved last weekend.”
"I believe Misano circuit suits us well and allows us to achieve high speeds. With the Asian tour coming up, this is our last race before it, so let's give it our best shot!"
According to team manager Nicolas Goyon, Acosta's early departure from the San Marino GP occurred because "he was somewhat impatient to pass Morbidelli, which resulted in him losing a wing and subsequently crashing shortly after."
The young Spaniard missed an opportunity, which also resulted in him losing fifth place and the title of top KTM rider in the world championship to Brad Binder.
"We collected significant data from the previous round after racing and testing at Misano last week. Now, with updated components and configurations from the test, we're returning for the Emilia Romagna round," Goyon stated.
Pedro Acosta will be competing on a track where he has previous MotoGP experience for the first time, making it interesting to observe how he handles the weekend.
"After an early crash in last Sunday's race, he missed out on a top 5 finish. It's clear he'll be seeking redemption and will go to great lengths to make up for it."
After taking a risk with a pit stop following his crash, Acosta ended up a lap behind. Meanwhile, his teammate Augusto Fernandez lost control and crashed when it started raining mid-race.
According to Goyon, Augusto Fernandez discovered a favorable setup direction last week, but he also had a crash during the race when he was in 13th position.
"He has an additional opportunity to prove that he's on the correct path, but to achieve this, he must complete the races and accumulate points. He possesses the capability to accomplish this, so let's move forward!"
Fernandez is currently collaborating with Alberto Girabola, the former crew chief for Andrea Dovizioso and Enea Bastianini. Girabola is set to rejoin Bastianini at Tech3 next year.
