The Labour Party has capitalized on Rishi Sunak's acknowledgment that homeownership has become more challenging under his administration, labeling it a severe criticism of his party's tenure in office.
Speaking to the BBC, the prime minister expressed his desire to simplify the process for young individuals aiming to purchase their first home, highlighting that the "major obstacle" they face is accumulating enough money for a down payment.
The Resolution Foundation has found that whereas the majority of 18 to 34-year-olds lived with a partner and children in 1997, the most typical living situation for this age group today is residing with their parents.

Research conducted by real estate company Savills revealed that while the average UK house price of £340,837 might secure a spacious five-bedroom house in certain areas of Scotland, Wales, and the north of England, the same amount would only suffice for a small studio apartment in central London.
In response to a question about whether it has become more difficult to own a home under a Conservative government, Mr. Sunak acknowledged the challenge, stating: "It has become more difficult, and my goal is to simplify the process. We plan to not only construct homes in appropriate locations in a manner considerate of local communities but also to assist young people in securing excellent jobs that will enable them to save for a down payment."

When asked about young people's concerns, primarily that they are unable to afford moving out of their parents' homes, he responded, "Actually, from my conversations, the primary hurdle is the deposit. Many earn enough to manage monthly mortgage payments; however, accumulating the initial deposit remains a significant challenge."
