Ricciardo’s Resurgence: A Timely Boost in Battle for F1 Future Amid Red Bull Speculation
"Boost for Daniel Ricciardo in his battle for an F1 career"
Daniel Ricciardo believes his latest results might influence Helmut Marko’s decision.
Daniel Ricciardo believes his recent streak of strong performances has enhanced his chances of landing a spot with Red Bull Racing in the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Ricciardo faces increased pressure to deliver results as Red Bull considers promoting Liam Lawson to a permanent racing position with the team next season.
There are also indications that Ricciardo might be swapped out following the summer break due to a provision in Lawson's agreement which allows him to seek opportunities elsewhere if he isn't assigned a driving role.
Ricciardo has answered with a series of reliable showings.
The Austrian Grand Prix stood out as his most impressive weekend so far, surpassing his teammate Yuki Tsunoda and ultimately securing a finish in the points.
RB seemingly lacked the speed necessary to secure a spot in the top 10 at the Red Bull Ring, leading Ricciardo to adopt a defensive strategy.
After the race, he expressed, "It feels like for the third consecutive week, I've really maximized my performance. I'm still aiming for a higher level of excellence, but indeed, it's been three straight successes. I can proudly state that for three weekends straight, I've left the paddock on a Sunday with a sense of pride. I just need to maintain this momentum."
Ricciardo is confident that his impressive performances during races will be key in persuading Marko and changing his viewpoint.
"Ricciardo made it clear that to Helmut, it's not about personal relations; it's all about the results on the track. He stated, 'Helmut has been in my life for quite a while, and ultimately, he's not influenced by one's character. What truly matters to him are the times on the stopwatch and how one ranks. He's inherently a racer at heart, and that's primarily what he expects from us.' Ricciardo further added, 'This focus on performance alone can shift his opinion of me from negative to positive quite quickly.'"
"I believe the weekend has been beneficial. Like I mentioned, there's a bit more stability now, so the goal is to maintain that momentum. Hopefully, by the time the summer holiday rolls around, he'll be relaxing on a beach, affirming ‘Ricciardo, he's definitely still in the game'.”
Ricciardo was satisfied with outperforming the Alpines, which appeared to be faster during the weekend.
"Ricciardo reflected, stating, 'My memory of the entire race isn't clear. To fully assess my satisfaction level, I might have to watch it once more, but for sure, I'm leaning more towards happiness than sorrow.' He acknowledged, 'Haas did score more points than us, clearly indicating we lacked speed."
"I believe the Alpine had a bit more speed, so staying ahead was challenging… I feel the team's support was crucial. Having two sets of hard tyres allowed us to stop for pits slightly sooner, taking advantage of our position on the track. They timed my pit stop perfectly, and then my main focus was to keep an eye on the rearview mirrors and essentially avoid making any mistakes!"
