Red Bull Confirms Sergio Perez’s Future with Two-Year Contract Extension Through 2026 Amidst Season Challenges
Red Bull has confirmed that Sergio Perez has inked a two-year extension to his F1 racing contract, ensuring his position in the team until the close of 2026.
Red Bull has officially announced that they have extended Sergio Perez's contract, securing his place on the team for the 2025 and 2026 Formula 1 seasons.
There was anticipation that Perez would secure a new agreement, yet the announcement of a two-year contract renewal is somewhat unexpected due to the recent doubts about the 34-year-old Mexican's ongoing association with Red Bull.
Perez began the new season facing considerable scrutiny to secure his spot for 2025, following a mostly unimpressive 2023 season. However, he kicked off on a high note, securing the runner-up position behind his teammate Max Verstappen in three of the initial four races.
Despite experiencing a significant decline in performance, marked by challenging races in Miami, Imola, and Monaco that resulted in a drop to fifth place in the championship standings, Red Bull still believes that Perez is the ideal teammate for Verstappen.
"Perez expressed his enthusiasm for his continued association with the esteemed team, stating, 'It is an unparalleled challenge to be part of Oracle Red Bull Racing, encompassing both on-track and off-track activities,' despite not having secured a victory this season."
"I'm thrilled to remain a part of this group, furthering our collective path and adding to the team's illustrious legacy for an additional two years. It's a significant challenge to be amongst this team, and it's one that I thoroughly enjoy."
This year presents a significant challenge, but I am completely confident in our team's ability to create a promising future, and I'm thrilled to contribute to it. I'm grateful to everyone for the immense faith they've placed in me, and I aim to reciprocate that by delivering outstanding performance both on and off the track.
"I believe there's much effort ahead of us, as we aim to secure many more Championships as a team."
Red Bull's team leader, Christian Horner, expressed: "This is a crucial moment to finalize our roster for 2025, and we are extremely delighted to maintain our collaboration with Checo."
"Maintaining consistency and a stable environment is key for the team, with Checo and Max forming a strong and effective duo. Their collaboration led to the team's historic achievement of its first-ever one-two ranking in the Championship last year."
Checo has kicked off 2024 impressively, securing runner-up finishes in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Japan, followed by a podium finish in China. Despite facing challenges in the recent races due to increased competition, we remain optimistic about Checo's capabilities and eagerly anticipate his resurgence to the familiar excellence and results we've come to expect.
"The previous year was exceptionally remarkable, and maintaining our championship status will demand significant effort. However, we have confidence in our roster and the entire team, which is crucial for what appears to be a tightly contested Championship season ahead."
