Red Bull Braces for More Challenges as F1 Resumes: Zandvoort’s Dutch Grand Prix Poses Critical Test for Verstappen and Team
Further challenges expected for RB20 as F1 resumes after summer hiatus in Zandvoort
"The major breakthrough is unlikely to happen in Zandvoort"
Red Bull has expressed concerns about their prospects at the upcoming F1 Dutch Grand Prix this weekend.
As the summer hiatus concludes in Zandvoort, Max Verstappen is eager to snap his streak of four races without a victory.
Mercedes and McLaren's recent surge has posed challenges for Verstappen and Red Bull, and this trend may persist into the upcoming weekend.
"In the midst of the summer hiatus, a two-week period presents itself where all activities halt, rendering any progress on the vehicle unattainable," Helmut Marko of Red Bull conveyed to Speedweek.
"We must address our issues and identify the root cause, as the balance in the car has been lost compared to its performance in the initial three races."
"However, gauging the speed at which this occurs is challenging. I'm not optimistic that the major breakthrough will occur in Zandvoort."
"We engage in thorough idea generation and explore multiple concepts. However, it's too early to determine which solutions we'll adopt and their execution."
It's evident that securing a good starting position at Zandvoort is crucial, as making passes on the track is almost unfeasible.
"Max has a strong chance of performing well in the upcoming qualifying round, given his recent success in similar events."
"In Austria and Spa, we emerged as the speed leaders. In Hungary, we fell short by just a tiny margin – indicating we're nitpicking at an already elevated performance level."
Red Bull has announced that despite his recent struggles and resulting criticism, Sergio Perez will remain Max Verstappen's teammate at Zandvoort and in future races.
However, the immediate focus for the championship-leading team is their RB20 model.
McLaren and Mercedes have gained a significant advantage in the off-track development battle, a fact that has clearly been demonstrated through their on-track performances.
In the most recent race in Belgium, Red Bull returned the RB20's engine to its original configuration after experimenting with an upgraded version in the prior race in Hungary.
The highly aerodynamic demands at Spa led Red Bull to reconsider their strategy, but they might find themselves at a disadvantage once more for the upcoming Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix this weekend.
Mercedes has secured victories in three out of the last four Formula 1 races, with Lewis Hamilton claiming two wins and George Russell achieving one.
