Pedro Acosta Dismisses Confidence Concerns and Eyes Ducati’s Barcelona Performance with Curiosity
Pedro Acosta expresses uncertainty over Ducati's performance in Barcelona
"Ducati's strategy is familiar to us. They tend to struggle on Fridays, but by Saturday…"
Pedro Acosta responded with his usual playful tone when asked about his self-assurance in Barcelona.
When inquired whether a successful practice session on Friday at the Catalunya MotoGP helped restore his shaken confidence following a crash in Le Mans, Acosta responded.
He quickly retorted, "Who told you I've lost confidence? Is that your view? Well, I disagree. Everything is okay."
On Friday in Barcelona, Acosta secured the third-fastest time, trailing behind Aleix Espargaro of Aprilia and Brad Binder from KTM.
Ducati competitors voiced their frustrations over insufficient traction, an issue that appeared to impact KTMs or Aprilias less severely.
When inquired whether he observed any issues with his Ducati competitors during the practice session, Acosta responded.
He grinned, saying, "I hadn't been behind a Ducati all day…
"Truthfully, Pecco was on the brink of victory last year, had it not been for his accident."
"We have to hold off until tomorrow. It's understood that Ducati has a pattern. They tend to struggle a bit on Friday, and then by Saturday…
"Uncertainty looms over Ducati's performance tomorrow."
Tech3 GASGAS competitor Acosta set the tone for his weekend in Barcelona, stating, "Since Le Mans, we've been in a position to secure victory. That determination persisted even after we experienced a crash.
"Today, I declare our progress is built upon our previous foundation."
"The momentum continues to build. Our expertise is growing, and we are making strides forward."
He outlined the difficulties related to the circuit, stating, "Barcelona doesn't offer the best grip."
"It's challenging to predict the wear pattern of the tires. As long as you keep moving without halting, they perform efficiently."
"However, if you remain within the square for a duration of eight minutes…
"The sensation is uncertain once you've halted in the pit with the same set of tires."
Acosta's teammate, Augusto Fernandez, faced challenges maintaining stability, however, Acosta clarified that their motorcycles have minimal similarities.
"Acosta mentioned that they enhanced the stability on their end."
"We took a significant leap forward in this domain."
"Our bicycles are entirely distinct due to his height and weight, which are significantly more than mine.
"His configuration of foot pegs and handlebars stands out as unique."
Acosta heads into the Catalunya MotoGP, marking the 2024 season's sixth event, positioned sixth in the overall rankings.
His remarkable performances at the beginning of his debut season have led to forecasts that he will shortly clinch a Grand Prix victory.
Acosta may ascend to KTM's premier squad as his impressive progression persists.
