Brad Binder Reflects on Crash-Heavy Practice in Catalunya: A Candid Admittance of Fault and Determination to Improve
Brad Binder candidly admits, "I totally botched it; I wish to stop having accidents" after experiencing yet another fall-filled Friday practice session in Catalunya.
Similar to his experience at Le Mans a fortnight earlier, Brad Binder encountered a mix of highs and lows during the first day of MotoGP practice in Catalunya.
The KTM competitor showcased tremendous speed on his RC16 bike, yet, a pair of accidents at the second turn hindered the progress of the rider from South Africa.
Despite causing damage to both motorcycles, Binder managed to execute a late time attack, securing the second place position just behind Aleix Espargaro.
"Starting off in the first turn, I went too far and ended up losing control of the back end as I was beginning to shift directions," Binder explained.
"The vehicle experienced a significant leap as I attempted to switch gears, and it abruptly locked the steering from one direction to the other; that was the extent of it."
"In the second accident, I switched to the hard tire, but it didn't offer the grip I needed. Despite moving at a very slow pace, I still ended up crashing."
"Apologies to my team for the undue stress placed on them due to my lack of a bike. Nevertheless, we managed to complete both runs. Kudos to my crew."
"They repaired it and are truly remarkable. I'm extremely pleased to have had the chance to do a few fast laps."
Binder expressed satisfaction with KTM's performance, noting it as a welcome improvement given the team's recent struggles with consistency, particularly within the factory team segment.
Binder commented, "I had the sensation that all elements were aligning favorably. It wasn’t the flawless lap, admittedly, but we've successfully advanced to Q2."
"I believe we're all quick, and whenever I joined, we were tightly grouped and leading."
"I have the impression that there's absolutely no traction available, yet it seems to be benefiting us."
Binder has faced scrutiny following several accidents in the latest races.
Binder acknowledged his fault in the initial collision in Barcelona, attributing it to his own error, yet he viewed the subsequent incident as a result of situational factors.
Binder stated, "The initial accident today was entirely my responsibility. I absolutely botched it. However, regarding the second accident; what's to be done?"
"I opted for a hard front tire even though the temperature wasn't suitable for it, simply because I had no alternatives. My goal moving forward is to avoid any further accidents."
