Oscar Piastri Powers Through Pain to Clinch First F1 Victory Despite Broken Rib
Oscar Piastri discloses he won the Hungarian Grand Prix despite having a fractured rib
Oscar Piastri has disclosed that he was dealing with a fractured rib ahead of the F1 summer break.
Oscar Piastri disclosed that he faced difficulties due to a broken rib as the initial half of the 2024 Formula 1 season drew to a close.
On Sunday morning, the driver from McLaren took to social media to post pictures showing that he had been healing from an injury for numerous weeks prior to the summer break.
"Season's initial phase completed. Achieved my first Grand Prix win. Experienced my first fracture. My rib is appreciating the rest," Piastri described in the post.
One of the included pictures displayed an X-ray revealing a break in his sixth rib.
The photo was taken on Monday, July 8, the day following the British Grand Prix. Piastri secured a fourth-place finish in the Silverstone competition.

The timing of the X-ray indicates that the 23-year-old Australian likely experienced some pain when he secured his first F1 win at the Hungarian Grand Prix, happening two weeks afterward.
Piastri has had an impressive beginning to the 2024 season, currently holding the fourth position in the drivers' standings as the season enters its latter half.
He secured his fourth top-three finish of the season at the Belgian Grand Prix, coming in behind Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton to claim second place.
Piastri has amassed 167 points, putting him 110 points behind the frontrunner Max Verstappen, and 32 points behind his teammate, Lando Norris.
McLaren holds the runner-up position in the constructors' standings, trailing the front-runners, Red Bull, by a mere 42 points.
