Oliver Bearman to Replace Banned Kevin Magnussen for Haas at Azerbaijan Grand Prix
Ollie Bearman will replace the suspended Kevin Magnussen at Haas for the upcoming race in Baku. Oliver Bearman has been selected by Haas to participate in next weekend's Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Haas has revealed that Oliver Bearman will replace Kevin Magnussen in the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix next weekend, as Magnussen faces a one-race suspension.
Kevin Magnussen has been handed a one-race ban after accumulating 12 penalty points on his license due to multiple incidents over the last year.
This means he will not be participating in the event next weekend in Baku.
This marks Bearman's second appearance in Formula 1 this year, following his role as a substitute for Carlos Sainz at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
Bearman is set to compete for Haas as a regular driver in 2025, partnering with Esteban Ocon. The upcoming weekend will offer him valuable experience and a genuine measure of his potential competitiveness for the following year.
Referring to the news, Bearman mentioned that it is certainly more difficult to step in as a reserve driver due to the limited preparation time and other factors. However, he feels fortunate to have had a similar experience earlier this year with Scuderia Ferrari, which he can rely on now.
"I’ve already participated in four FP1 sessions with the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team driving the VF-24 this season, so that experience will definitely be beneficial for handling the entire race weekend in Baku."
"The team is performing well right now, and I'll make the most of the time we have to get ready. The goal is to have a strong weekend in Azerbaijan."
Team principal Ayao Komatsu expressed enthusiasm, saying, "I'm thrilled that Ollie will be joining Nico to drive the VF-24 in Baku."
He has demonstrated significant potential during his FP1 sessions and the post-season test. Additionally, he delivered an impressive performance while driving for Scuderia Ferrari in Saudi Arabia, earning points as a result.
"This presents a fantastic chance for both Ollie and the team to collaborate over an entire race weekend, and having Nico as a teammate offers him an ideal point of comparison."
Bearman made an impressive first appearance in Formula 1 for Ferrari in Saudi Arabia, where he secured a seventh-place finish.
