Monfardini Withdraws from Sprint Race
After Durango's disqualification, the GP2 lineup at Silverstone will feature only 23 drivers. Ferdinando Monfardini has been ruled out of the sprint race due to a severe crash in the feature race.
The Italian driver was poised to earn additional points for the DAMS team, but he lost control of his vehicle, crashed into the wall severely, wrecked his car, and ended up in the hospital.
Monfardini avoided major injuries but was kept in the hospital overnight as a precaution. It was recommended that he withdraw from the competition.
Following Durango's exclusion, the GP2 lineup will be down to 23 for the Silverstone sprint race as Ferdinando Monfardini has not been permitted to compete due to injuries sustained in a severe crash during the feature race.
The Italian driver was set to earn additional points for the DAMS team but ended up crashing into the wall after losing control of his vehicle. The collision caused significant damage to his car and resulted in him being hospitalized.
Despite not sustaining any significant injuries, Monfardini was held overnight as a precaution, and it was recommended that he withdraw from the competition.
Fellow team member Franck Perera will take his position at the back of the grid, starting in 22nd place, as the only DAMS car.
